most popular luxury brands dior - Luxe Digital

LVMH’s second-largest brand, Christian Dior, or Dior for short, tops our list of the most popular luxury brands online in 2024, comfortably extending its leadership for the second time in a row with 13.1% of the total search interest .

dior best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

With LVMH owner Bernard Arnault’s eldest daughter, Delphine Arnault , as CEO, and Maria Grazia Chiuri’s creative take on women’s ready-to-wear and haute couture, Dior continues to win over affluent consumers with its perfect balance of timeless modernity and heritage references.

Product-wise, the luxury brand benefits from the success of its iconic Dior handbags , high jewelry (created by Victoire de Castellan), and the popularity of its beauty category.

As it turns out, global success has a smell —Dior Sauvage is once again the world’s bestselling men’s fragrance . While women’s iconic perfumes Miss Dior and J’Adore are long-time favorites and continue to evolve with successful new iterations such as Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet, J’Adore Parfum d’Eau, and Francis Kurkdjian’s latest creation, L’Or de J’adore. Dior also launched a new upmarket scent, Dioriviera, while La Collection Privée Christian Dior’s star fragrance, Gris Dior, continues to perform well.

Dior’s makeup (notably Dior Addict) and skincare (Prestige range and the new travel-friendly Dior Le Baume) are also strong revenue contributors for the French luxury brand.

🤔 Did you know? LVMH exported more designer handbags and perfumes than France did Camembert and wine in 2023 (4% of all French exports versus 3.2 % for the country’s famed agricultural sector). — Adrienne Klasa, The Financial Times

With its large network of directly operated stores, fully controlled e-commerce distribution, new Dior spas, live streaming, and a solid social media presence, Dior connects more directly with its customers—and well beyond fashion circles .

Dior posts 253 times per month on average across the four social channels considered for our ranking, more than double the average frequency of all the other brands on our list (120 times per month). Dior’s social media dominance is further exemplified by its ability to generate the highest absolute number of engagements , particularly on Instagram, with over 119 million shares, likes, and comments across channels compared to an average of 26 million for the other brands on our list.

Forging ties with cultures and craftsmanship across geographies—from runway spectacles in far-flung locales to museum exhibitions, from artist collaborations and celebrity partnerships (like K-pop artists Blackpink’s Jisoo , BTS’ Jimin , and actor Robert Pattinson ) to new prints (looking at you, Plan de Paris)—the historic French Maison shines in visibility and more importantly in desirability.

When searching for Dior online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Dior handbags
  • Dior saddle bag
  • Dior homme intense
  • Dior Sauvage
  • Christian Dior sandals
  • Dior makeup
  • Dior sneakers

most popular luxury brands gucci - Luxe Digital

Gucci—which accounted for half (50.5 % to be exact) of parent company Kering’s revenues in 2023—is in the middle of a tougher-than-expected turnaround.

After dominating the top of our ranking for several years, Gucci lost its place to Dior last year and has yet to regain it. The Italian fashion house suffered from the most significant year-over-year decline in its share of online search interest , dropping from 13.8% in 2023 to 10.7% in 2024. While still very respectable, it’s now just 0.1 percentage point above Chanel. This is the closest these two brands have ever been and the lowest Gucci has ever been after dominating Luxe Digital Titans ’ ranking, with 17.52% of search interest in 2020.

gucci best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

Traffic to Gucci’s website has dropped -9.28% year-over-year, and the luxury brand’s social media audience only grew by 1.75% over the same period.

Gucci targets younger, fashion-forward, aspirational shoppers who are more vulnerable to economic pressures at the expense of older, upmarket customers. The brand’s strategy was hugely successful until it wasn’t.

With the appointment of Sabato De Sarno as Gucci’s creative director in 2023, a shift towards a more minimalist aesthetic is unfolding, contrasting with Alessandro Michele’s maximalist vision. Gucci Ancora, De Sarno’s debut collection, successfully hit the stores in February 2024, sparking intrigue about its potential to appeal to higher-end luxury clientele and revive the fortunes of Kering’s star brand.

Gucci’s ventures into the Metaverse, its efforts to bring its heritage to Web3 through virtual fashion shows and digital exhibitions (like Gucci Cosmos Land), and its exploration of generative AI art through online auctions (collaborations with Christie’s 3.0) are testament to the brand’s unwavering commitment to digital innovation, inspiring a sense of anticipation for its future.

The Florentine fashion house continues optimizing its store network (538 directly operated stores as of December 31, 2023) to support its brand elevation strategy, increase its visibility in the best locations, and give the wealthiest shoppers a more exclusive experience.

Gucci also continues to embrace a more sustainable supply chain, notably with the launch of its Circular Hub, the first hub for circular luxury in Italy (February 2023), and its first vegan handbag , the Horsebit 1955 in the House’s Demetra fabric (November 2023).

When searching for Gucci online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Gucci slides
  • Gucci sandals
  • Gucci shoes
  • Gucci loafers
  • Gucci sunglasses
  • Gucci purse
  • Gucci sneakers

most popular luxury brands chanel - Luxe Digital

One of the last digital holdouts in luxury fashion, Chanel is famous for refusing to sell its clothes and handbags online. In February 2024, Chanel won a six-year lawsuit against NYC reseller What Goes Around Comes Around—talk about being brand protective.

As the famous brand behind the “ little black dress ” and Chanel No. 5 perfume , the historic luxury French Maison shines as the world’s largest social luxury brand , boasting 99.1 million social media followers—the largest cross-channel following of any brand on this list.

chanel best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

Chanel, privately owned by billionaire brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer , continues its brand elevation and exclusivity drive by rolling out appointment-only Salons Privés in Asia, Europe, and the US and more dedicated spaces for its Chanel & Moi sustainability program, which offers after-sales services, including restoration and repair.

The 2024 high-profile advertising campaign featuring Brad Pitt and Penélope Cruz confirms a stronger focus on Chanel’s most iconic handbags —particularly its Classic Flap Bag (which has seen regular price increases over the years and waiting lists for certain styles).

Chanel is also tapping into the booming jewelry category, notably launching its first store in the United States dedicated solely to watches and fine jewelry on New York’s Fifth Avenue.

Following Chanel’s recent executive departures, we’re curious to see how the legacy luxury brand addresses changing market dynamics.

When searching for Chanel online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Chanel earrings
  • Chanel shoes
  • Chanel sandals
  • Chanel sneakers
  • Chanel purse
  • Bleu de Chanel

most popular luxury brands hermes - Luxe Digital

Immediately below the podium, we find French fashion and leather goods house Hermès, which is still mostly owned by the founder’s descendants. The brand recorded $14.3 billion in revenue in 2023 (up 21% at constant exchange rates from 2022) and an above-expectations surge (up 17%) in 2024 first-quarter sales, underlining robust demand for ultra-luxury and an upturn in Asia’s demand for the brand. Notable milestones include new store openings in China, pointing to the luxury brand’s strategic retail growth in the country.

hermes best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

The desirability of Hermès’ timeless classic handbags —often regarded as investment pieces with a robust resale value that can surpass the initial retail price—remains unwavering. Despite successive price increases, wealthy shoppers continue to covet the notoriously hard-to-acquire Birkins (which recently became the subject of an antitrust lawsuit) and Kellys .

The passing of style icon Jane Birkin in July 2023 further fueled interest in the Birkin. And with Hermès’ most exclusive bag turning 40 and fabulous this year, its desirability is set to remain as strong as ever.

Since 1837, the storied leather house Hermès has remained faithful to its artisan model. In 2023, Hermès inaugurated two sustainable leather goods workshops (notably awarded France’s highest environmental labeling —the E4C2), with more in the pipeline to reinforce production capacities.

If limited editions of Rouge Hermès are on everyone’s lips, all eyes are turning to Hermès Le Regard , the brand’s new makeup collection . Hermès also benefits from the success of its fragrances: Terre d’Hermès, the Jardins collection, and Twilly d’Hermès.

It is also worth mentioning that Hermès Horloger, the brand’s watch division, clocked in a growth of 23% YoY at constant rates in 2023. The launch of the new Cut model, Hermès’ first mechanical women’s watch line, is another tick in the right direction.

Surprisingly, Hermès’ presence on social media remains very modest. With just 18.2 million social media followers, the luxury brand is second to last on our 2024 ranking by audience. Hermès is also the brand that’s the least active on social media amongst its peers, with just 381 posts per year on average across all channels.

Hermès surprised us all and sparked discussions with its Shanghai Reprised Men’s Spring 2024 Runway Show (its first major post-pandemic event in China). The show featured a diverse cast of local talents, from Olympic athlete Wu Dajing to Michelin-starred chef Jason Liu .

When searching for Hermès online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Hermès Birkin bag
  • Hermès scarf
  • Hermès blanket
  • Hermès bracelet
  • Hermès belt
  • Hermès Chypre sandals
  • Hermès Kelly
  • Hermès necklace

5. Louis Vuitton

Art and affluence on the A-list.

most popular luxury brands Louis Vuitton - Luxe Digital

LVMH’s flagship brand continues to anchor its growth in the reinvention of iconic product lines, its dialogue with art and artists (with notable exhibitions like LV Dream and La Malle Courrier), and headline-grabbing destination shows.

The French luxury brand attracts more monthly visits to its website (15.6 million) than any other brand on our list. Louis Vuitton also added the highest number of new followers (7 million). Yet, Louis Vuitton falls down one spot on our ranking, losing 1.3 percentage points in the share of online search interest year over year.

louis vuitton best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

The appointment of multi-talented American artist Pharrell Williams as Creative Director of Menswear has sparked excitement and anticipation. This fusion of luxury fashion and entertainment promises social sparkles and a generous sprinkle of A-listers .

Pharrell’s first fashion show garnered over 1.1 billion views across social platforms, and his Millionaire Speedy bag went viral upon launch in November 2023. The bag’s $1,000,000 price tag and sold-on-invitation-only exclusivity most certainly helped.

Meanwhile, the continued exceptional creative momentum of Nicolas Ghesquière , whose contract was renewed for a further five years, is elevating the desirability of LV’s womenswear collections.

In a bold move, Louis Vuitton ventured into the Metaverse with the viral launch in June 2023 of its $42,000 phygital trunk , combining a physical product and a digital collectible. The innovative approach continues with phygital drops exclusively for owners of a VIA Treasure Trunk NFT . (Sorry, Pharell’s Phygital $8,500 LV Varsity Jacket from the FW24 collection isn’t for everyone—and I am not even talking about the price 😅.)

In January 2024, the French Maison diversified further with the launch of Les Gastons Vuitton , the brand’s first fine jewelry collection for men .

When searching for Louis Vuitton online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Louis Vuitton bag
  • Louis Vuitton purse
  • Louis Vuitton shoes
  • Louis Vuitton crossbody
  • Louis Vuitton belt
  • Louis Vuitton wallet

The Crown of hard luxury.

most popular luxury brands rolex - Luxe Digital

How predictable: In 2024, Rolex remains the most sought-after luxury watch brand online, outperforming all other brands in the ‘hard luxury’ category.

As a private, technically non-profit company , Rolex achieved a significant milestone in 2023, generating an estimated* record sales revenue of 10.1 billion CHF ($11.5 billion USD), well above all the other luxury watch brands . To put that number in perspective, that’s more than its top five competitors— Cartier , Omega , Audemars Piguet , Patek Philippe , and Richard Mille— combined .

*Swiss watch companies do not directly provide actual sales numbers. Nevertheless, that’s pretty impressive for a brand that sells just one product – watches.

Rolex alone—excluding subsidiary Tudor — commands nearly a third of the Swiss watch market (30.3%, to be precise, for those who keep a record).

Of particular interest this year is the efforts by the Swiss luxury watch brand to grow its social media presence. Rolex grew its social channels by 12.9% year over year, topping our ranking. Unfortunately, this follower growth doesn’t seem to affect engagement with the brand on social platforms positively. Rolex is indeed towards the bottom of our ranking in terms of social engagement rate, with just 3.8% . The brand is also one of the least active in terms of average posts per year, with just 816 posts across all channels.

rolex best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

The sustained appeal of Rolex’s core collections, the growing availability of its steel watches, and the constantly increasing resale value of vintage Rolex watches are fueling interest in the Geneva-based brand and generating online conversations. Luxury watches—over 3,000 Swiss francs ($3,317 USD)—generated 92% of the overall sector’s growth, as The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry reported.

Product-wise, after a year of exotic watches by Rolex standards, the Crown of Swiss luxury watches returns to its classic design language for Watches and Wonders 2024, with subtle updates to its popular models.

Especially noteworthy for a brand that does not offer e-commerce options, Rolex continues to roll out its Certified Pre-Owned program across Europe and the United States after an initial launch in Switzerland in November 2022.

When searching for Rolex online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Rolex Submariner
  • Rolex Explorer

The upward trajectory continues.

most popular luxury brands prada - Luxe Digital

Following a strategic shift upmarket and building on outstanding creative momentum led by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, Prada continues to demonstrate growing brand desirability. Retail sales grew 12.1% in 2023, while the performance for the first quarter of 2024 is above market (+7% yoy).

Prada’s active presence on social media, with an impressive 2,257 posts over the past 12 months, has positioned it as the third most active brand on our list , surpassing Gucci and trailing only Dior and Louis Vuitton. This level of engagement is a clear indicator of Prada’s relevance and appeal.

prada best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

Prada’s success is underscored by its unique and well-balanced product category mix.

Prada continues to enrich the leather goods category with novelties like the new Buckle Bag, first introduced for SS24, and the ongoing reinterpretation of Prada’s iconic bags .

Prada’s commitment to sustainability is not a passing trend but a deeply ingrained core value. The launch of the 2024 Re-Nylon collection, crafted from upcycled plastic waste and featuring renowned British actors-turned-activists Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch , is a powerful testament to this commitment.

Exclusive collaborations were also well-received, like the “Adidas Football for Prada” collection and the groundbreaking partnership with Axiom Space on NASA’s lunar spacesuits for the Artemis III mission.

Given the success of Prada’s fragrance line (Prada Paradoxe perfume quickly took social media by scented storm when it launched in 2022), it is not surprising that Prada—via its licensing partnership with L’Oréal Luxe—added two new (inclusive and refillable) beauty categories, namely Prada Skin (skincare) and Prada Color (makeup) this year.

Successful live events traveling across global destinations (including Prada Extends and Prada Mode), the opening of the Pradasphere II exhibition in Shanghai, and Prada Caffè pop-ups have not only been popular among fashion enthusiasts but have also significantly contributed to boosting brand visibility and interest globally.

The allure of Prada is further enhanced by its buzzy front rows, star-studded advertising campaigns, and viral items. (I can still picture Sofia Richie Grainge’s poplin Prada shirt dress and White Raffia Tote Bag on that romantic Maldives honeymoon).

When searching for Prada online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Prada bucket hat
  • Prada purse

8. Tiffany & Co.

Steadying the (shining) ship.

most popular luxury brands tiffany - Luxe Digital

Since its acquisition by LVMH in 2021 (the largest luxury acquisition to date), Tiffany & Co. is renewing its luster .

Following Tiffany & Co.’s high-profile reopening of The Landmark, its iconic flagship on NYC’s Fifth Avenue, in the Spring of 2023, the LVMH-owned luxury jewelry brand continues to modernize its retail footprint, rolling out its aesthetic retail concept at prominent locations, including the Dubai Mall, Tokyo Omotesando, and Palo Alto, California.

The company’s upgrade extended to its historic homewares division with the appointment of its first-ever artistic director of Tiffany Home in March 2023.

tiffany best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

Tiffany continues to endear a broad consumer base, both generationally and geographically, with celebrity campaigns and star-studded events, headline-grabbing rare gemstone acquisitions (Tiffany & Co. announced in July 2023 that it had acquired a rare Muzo Emerald of over 10 carats ), and limited-edition collaborations (like Rimowa x Tiffany diamond-inspired luggage collection or the T1 bracelet and bust with contemporary artist Daniel Arsham ).

The brand’s robust omnichannel strategy, focus on high-end jewelry, and commitment to sustainability all support its upmarket momentum .

Tiffany & Co. is particularly good at creating shareable content for social media. The luxury jewelry brand is the third most viral brand on our list , after Louis Vuitton and Dior, with nearly 858,000 posts reshared by its followers.

When searching for Tiffany online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Tiffany necklace
  • Tiffany diamond necklace

9. Ralph Lauren

What a comeback!

most popular luxury brands ralph lauren - Luxe Digital

In a remarkable resurgence, Ralph Lauren is once again embodying the American dream, this time with a bit of star power from Taylor Swift . Who could forget that TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year was dressed in Ralph Lauren?

The American fashion house is welcomed back on our list as the fastest-rising luxury brand of 2024 , rocketing seven spots up the charts and landing at #9.

Traffic to Ralph Lauren’s website is also solid, placing the brand fourth on our list, just after Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Chanel, thus punching much higher than its share of search interest would suggest.

ralph lauren best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

By staying true to its “classic preppy roots, but adopting a more modern and agile retail approach” (read: strategic focus on its brand website and physical stores), Ralph Lauren’s brand elevation seems to be paying off.

The brand’s naturally low-key yet high-end, iconic products continue to perform well. Known for its timeless, understated fashion (from Oxford shirts to mesh polos and cashmere sweaters), Ralph Lauren capitalizes on the growing quiet luxury and old money trend.

The brand also continues to explore the opportunities of Web3 and phygical retail environments. In August 2023, Ralph Lauren unveiled the ‘888 House’—its first virtual store created using Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) technology —to coincide with the launch of its new handbag collection, the RL 888. The brand also ventured into the Metaverse by launching a new branded in-game experience (“Race to Greatness,” a digital island within the virtual world of the popular online video game Fortnite) and phygital boot drop, showing that it is not afraid to experiment with new technologies and retail formats.

Ralph Lauren’s success in China is a local triumph and a testament to its global appeal. The brand’s highly successful Singles’ Day activations and collaboration with Chinese KOL Mr. Bags are clear indicators of its strong foothold in the Chinese market and its ability to resonate with consumers worldwide.

The recent partnership (effective April 2024) with Haworth—the parent company of BoConcept, Cappellini, and more—will expand Ralph Lauren Home’s production and distribution.

And a quick check on #dressinglikeapolobear hashtag on TikTok will confirm that Ralph Lauren is indeed riding the growth wave.

When searching for Ralph Lauren online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Ralph Lauren polo
  • Ralph Lauren sweater
  • Ralph Lauren perfume
  • Ralph Lauren Purple Label
  • Ralph Lauren home
  • Ralph Lauren American flag sweater

10. Versace

Reaching for the stars isn’t enough.

most popular luxury brands Versace - Luxe Digital

Versace, a symbol of Italian elegance and extravagance, leverages its star power (including notable instances of celebrity red-carpet dressing moments), a resurgence in archival interest (in line with the nostalgia trend), and Chief Creative Officer Donatella’s enduring icon status to expand its reach and foster online engagement.

Versace’s social media presence may not be as prolific as its peers (Versace ranks 11th in average posts per year, with 975 posts over the past 12 months across all its social media channels). Still, the brand is very good at driving engagement , with each post garnering over 30,000 likes, comments, and reshares on average.

versace best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

The brand’s exclusive celebrity endorsements and collaborations contribute to Versace’s enduring appeal amongst extended affluent fanbases.

Beyoncé sang praises to the brand, wearing vintage Versace at the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2024. The launch of La Vacanza (meaning ‘holiday’ in Italian), a collaborative collection co-designed by Donatella Versace and Grammy award-winning singer and long-time muse for Versace Dua Lipa in May 2023, was music to our ears.

The brand also looked to the East for more influences, naming K-Pop stars Hyunjin and Ningning, and Chinese actress Rosy Zhao as global ambassadors of Versace.

Taking branded experiences to the next level, Versace’s foray into the hospitality industry in Asia with the unveiling of Palazzo Versace Macau (its second fashion-branded hotel following Palazzo Versace Dubai) in March 2024 marks a significant milestone in the brand’s diversification strategy. This move not only expands the brand’s portfolio but also provides a unique opportunity to immerse people in the opulent Italian world of Versace.

In contrast with many luxury brands whispering quiet luxury, Versace boldly makes a statement . But as it appears, the brand knows how to do that while remaining timeless. Versace launched Icons , a curated collection of classic wardrobe essentials to build a capsule wardrobe . Following his celebrated Oscar win, ‘Oppenheimer’ actor Cillian Murphy was announced as Versace’s new male Icon.

Big picture: Founded by Gianni Versace in 1978, the brand is currently owned by the American group Capri Holdings. However, with a potential luxury merger with Tapestry (which owns Coach, Kate Spade, and Stuart Weitzman), it will be interesting to see how the expanded American luxury group intends to compete with the European industry giants.

When searching for Versace online, people most often look for the following products:

most popular luxury brands armani - Luxe Digital

Armani moves up the rankings to #11 , rising four positions.

Interestingly, the Italian fashion house seems to have prioritized driving organic traffic growth to its website over social media this year. Armani saw the highest website traffic growth in 2024 , adding 18% more visitors to its brand website. However, the Italian house only grew its social media audience by 0.9% this year. It also ranks last on our list for engagement rate.

The Crown’s actress Elizabeth Debicki —who won the 2024 SAG Award in an Armani Privé dress—also did not go unnoticed. Celebrity red-carpet moments generate golden numbers in media value and revenue.

Known for its timeless silhouettes, artisanal craft, and neutral tones, Armani remains on trend with its quintessential quiet luxury vibes.

Released in May 2023, Giorgio Armani’s autobiography Per Amore—Italian for ‘with love’—gives insights into the life and philosophies of the nearly 90-year-old fashion icon .

The new Armani branded project on the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, has been one of the most anticipated off-plan residential launches.

In February 2024, Armani is flying high with a new partnership with Etihad, rolling out luxury amenities and fashionable loungewear for the UAE airlines’ Business and First-Class guests.

Giorgio Armani has kept his eponymous high-end Italian House independent since its foundation in 1975.

12. Cartier

Finding the sparkle again.

most popular luxury brands cartier - Luxe Digital

After a brief dip in 2023, the Richemont-owned jeweler Cartier has returned triumphantly , shining again among the top 15 Luxe Digital Titans .

Founded in 1847 in Paris, Cartier is the second fastest-growing brand on our ranking this year, moving up six places. While the brand isn’t particularly important on social media (it ranks 13th in terms of cross-channel followers and 14th in number of posts per year), it enjoys a relatively high social media audience growth this year at 8%, on par with Hermès.

The recent releases unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2024 have sparked a wave of excitement in the online community. While Cartier’s classic watches continue to captivate, new releases have everyone buzzing.

The legacy brand is constantly and consistently pioneering innovation in watches, from rejuvenating its iconic line with notably a new Santos complication (Santos de Cartier Dual Time) to launching miniature watches (Cartier Tank Mini is coming September 2024) and a watch that tells time backward (Cartier Santos Dumont).

The brand also continues to explore the fusion of the watch and jewelry worlds with the launch of the Reflection de Cartier watch collection (an ultra-high-end watch-bangle hybrid) and a trio of Animal Jewelry Watches (in the form of tiger, zebra, and crocodile releases).

In jewelry, the brand’s Iconic collections (like the Trinity ring or the Love and Juste un Clou bracelets) continue to significantly contribute to Cartier’s dazzling allure. And with the Trinity design celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024, Cartier is launching new editions of the classic.

From its pop-up exhibition ‘Into The Wild: Panthère de Cartier’ in Guangzhou to its immersive exhibition ‘Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design’ at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Cartier showcases its brand stories with cultural relevance and engagement, demonstrating its adaptability and understanding of its global audience.

Cartier’s commitment to championing women’s empowerment through its Cartier Women’s Initiative is another example of its values.

Chanel-wise, Cartier is expanding its global travel retail network with new airport boutiques, including Changi Airport, Singapore.

When searching for Cartier online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Cartier love bracelet

  • Cartier glasses
  • Cartier love ring

13. Valentino

Is the future brighter than PP Pink?

most popular luxury brands valentino - Luxe Digital

Valentino’s remarkable resurgence, catapulting it to an impressive number 13 on our list, is a testament to the brand’s strategic turnaround.

Founded in Rome in 1960 by Valentino Garavani, the Roman brand has never been more youthful. Valentino’s rejuvenation is not only a strategic shift but also a cultural transformation, as evidenced by its diverse and inclusive partnerships, working with the likes of American supermodel Kaia Gerber , South Korean actress Son Ye-jin , Mandarin pop artist Jolin Tsa (the brand’s first Chinese global ambassador), and K-pop idol SUGA .

valentino best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

Valentino’s momentum is driven by solid demand for accessories, followed by ready-to-wear. Perfumes and beauty, managed under license by L’Oréal, are also performing well.

Valentino’s sales strategy has undergone a significant transformation, with its direct network (comprising directly managed boutiques and e-commerce) now accounting for a substantial 66% of its total sales. This shift is exemplified by the opening and reopening of boutiques in key locations and the brand’s decision to take over the management of its e-commerce site, previously handled by Yoox-Net-A-Porter (until 2022). These changes have paved the way for the brand’s accelerated omnichannel integration.

After a successful 25-year tenure, the unexpected departure of creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli from the Roman House in March 2024 sent shockwaves through the industry. Previously known for its signature Valentino Red, the Roman house has expanded its vibrant vocabulary under creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, with color a hallmark of his aesthetic. (We will never forget PP Pink —a hot-pink hue the Pantone Colour Institute developed exclusively for Valentino.)

Valentino hired former Gucci designer Alessandro Michele as the new creative director. The announcement has sparked spikes in customer interest for the Roman house. It remains to be seen whether this surge in customer enthusiasm will be sustained and how it will shape Valentino’s popularity.

The Italian luxury brand punches above its weight with the amount of social media content it posted over the past 12 months, with an average of 1,900 posts, placing it sixth on the ranking by post.

Space to watch: Valentino, owned by Qatari investment fund Mayhoola, sold a 30% stake to the French luxury group Kering in July 2023 for €1.7 billion. And Kering has an option to acquire 100% of Valentino’s share capital by 2028.

When searching for Valentino online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Valentino perfume
  • Valentino cologne
  • Valentino born in Roma
  • Valentino bag

14. Burberry

Raining on the British brand’s parade.

most popular luxury brands burberry - Luxe Digital

The online performance of British heritage brand Burberry—which hit the refresh button with the appointment of new creative director Daniel Lee (who made his name with accessories at Bottega Veneta) in October 2022—is very much like the UK weather.

Undecided .

Burberry has moved in and out of our ranking over the past few years.

Burberry’s social media strategy reflects the brand’s current state. Despite having the fifth largest cross-channel social media audience with 46 million followers, Burberry’s social media activity was relatively low this year. Notably it is the only luxury brand on our list that is losing social media followers in 2024 .

burberry best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

After two years of renovations, Burberry reopened its 22,000-square-metre flagship on New Bond Street in July 2023.

With a refocus on modern British luxury , Britain’s most prominent heritage high fashion brand has built positive momentum with the unveiling in September 2023 of Daniel Lee’s first collection in stores, a revamped e-commerce site, and bold marketing activations during London Fashion Week—including renaming Bond Street tube station to “Burberry Street.”

In February 2024, Burberry took over London’s legendary department store Harrods (which is celebrating its 175th anniversary) by illuminating it in its signature ‘knight blue’ hue, as well as immersive experiences and an exclusive capsule collection.

The century-old inventor of the iconic gabardine trench coat continues to focus on classic Burberry icons, particularly its heritage outerwear and leather goods (the Burberry Frances handbags and vintage Burberry Check lines are performing well).

While drawing inspiration from the house’s archives, Burberry’s new creative direction brings a breath of fresh air and a more vibrant and contemporary approach to the brand’s storied legacy . This is evident in the introduction of new patterns, palettes, and proportions that had yet to be seen in the brand’s century-long history. In line with a more daring and brighter vision for Burberry, Lee unveiled its first key bag—the Knight Bag , named after one of the oldest house codes, the Equestrian Knight Design (dating 1901).

The British fashion house also launched its Burberry Classics in March 2024, a sustainable collection that confirms its signature check is as iconic as ever.

With global ambassadors ranging from Chinese actress Tang Wei to Saltburn’s Irish Star Barry Keoghan, Burberry is committed to celebrating diverse talents and narratives.

When searching for Burberry online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Burberry perfume

15. Balenciaga

Let’s just say, ‘It’s different.’

most popular luxury brands balenciaga - Luxe Digital

After months of image rebuilding and influential celebrity endorsements, Balenciaga has left (negative) controversies behind.

Still polarizing? Surely. Sparking widespread conversations and chatter on social media? Most certainly.

Balenciaga’s foray into Skiwear was marked by a unique campaign shot, with Demna’s signature irony, on a sunny beach. The invitation for the Balenciaga FW24 show in Paris (which featured an AI-generated set) was a faux eBay receipt and gifts curated by Demna from eBay.

The not-so-long-ago ‘canceled’ brand is at the bottom of our ranking across nearly every category, except for social media engagement, for which it ranks fourth, just behind Louis Vuitton, with a 6.4% engagement rate .

balenciaga best luxury brand statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

California has recently become a focus for Balenciaga’s retail expansion, doubling its presence on Rodeo Drive. Cardi B made her runway debut in a bold faux-fur coat at Balenciaga’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear fashion show in Los Angeles and made quite some noise online. While Kim Kardashian officially becoming a Balenciaga Ambassador in January 2024 certainly helps drive brand heat.

But beyond celebrity collaborations, Balenciaga has that inherent ability to turn just about anything into viral fashion gold.

Under the creative direction of Demna Gvasalia, the iconic Spanish brand Balenciaga continues to captivate with a tongue-in-cheek approach to fashion designs and meme-ability—from the viral Balenciaga Towel Skirt to a clutch shaped like a stiletto high heel worn, a bracelet that resembled a cellotape , or a collaboration capsule collection with upscale grocer Erewhon .

The launch of the ‘It’s Different’ campaign spotlights some of Balenciaga’s current hero products. Balenciaga is doubling down on the handbag category by successfully launching novelties like the Rodeo handbag line and revisiting archives to appeal to a broader spectrum of fashion enthusiasts of all ages.

In April 2024, Balenciaga reintroduced its iconic Le City bag , first launched in 2001, with a star-studded campaign. The anticipation it created on social platforms before the official launch is a testament to the brand’s ability to ride the nostalgia wave.

The fashion house’s designer sneakers continue to be a topic of conversation and a big online popularity factor. Balenciaga’s Triple S sneaker is making a resurgence in denim, while the limited Cargo sneakers (only 1,000 units available) continue the chunky sneaker legacy .

Just when we thought Balenciaga’s statement footwear couldn’t get more dramatic, the brand continues to prove otherwise. Balenciaga launched everything from Biker Pantashoes to a larger-than-life 10XL sneaker and a Reptile sneaker that is as wild as it gets. Balenciaga, so it seems, has found its footing again.

When searching for Balenciaga online, people most often look for the following products:

  • Balenciaga shoes

  • Balenciaga scandal
  • Balenciaga track
  • Balenciaga track runners
  • Balenciaga boots
  • Balenciaga bag
  • Balenciaga tracks

Best luxury brands of 2024: Final thoughts

It’s fascinating to see what the best luxury brands online do to remain top of mind amongst affluent consumers.

The luxury industry’s resilience has been consistently demonstrated over the past few years. But the once stellar growth of luxury is at a crossroads—and the path ahead is uneven .

best luxury brands ranking statistics 2024 - Luxe Digital

A pattern seems to emerge: Higher-end luxury brands surge ahead while those too reliant on fashion-forward, entry-level luxuries struggle .

With a broad customer base spanning geographies (the US, Europe, and Asia) and generations (Generation Y, Millennials, and Gen X in all their multigenerational complexities), luxury brands are innovating far and wide to expand their client bases while cultivating loyal brand lovers.

New ambassadorship announcements by the world’s most popular luxury brands highlight the prominence of the East (China and K-pop culture in particular).

The increasing value placed on authenticity (crowned Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year 2023) and brand essence by affluent consumers is a reassuring trend for the luxury industry, signaling a shift towards more meaningful consumer-brand relationships.

And while red carpet moments and Fashion Weeks still get much attention, other entertainment events (like Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour and Taylor Swift’s Eras) and brand collaborations (or what I’ve come to call ‘cool-laborations’) are also driving digital engagement for luxury brands. And with the Paris 2024 Olympics, we can only expect more cross-industry partnerships coming into play.

In short, craftsmanship, cultural credibility, and community drive brand desirability and shape the online popularity of the world’s best luxury brands.

Ranking takeaways:

  • The podium remains unchanged , with Dior still holding the crown. Gucci and Chanel follow in the second and third spots, respectively.
  • American fashion house Ralph Lauren, the fastest riser of the year, along with Cartier and Valentino, have made a triumphant comeback .
  • Swarovski (which made its inaugural appearance in 12th place on our ranking last year), Saint Laurent, and Omega drop from the Top 15 list .
  • Burberry and Balenciaga fall down the ranking dramatically, losing four spots each.
  • While not appearing on our top 15, Hugo Boss (#18), Céline (#21), and Loewe (#22) have gained significant attention this year, moving up seven, six, and seven places, respectively.
  • Chanel is the most-followed luxury brand on social media in 2024.
  • Rolex outperforms all other brands in the ‘ hard luxury ‘ category.
  • Louis Vuitton attracts the highest level of monthly visits to its website (15.6 million).
  • Armani sees the highest website traffic growth in 2024, adding 18% more visitors to its brand website year over year.
  • Louis Vuitton has the highest absolute number of new followers (7 million), while Rolex claims the highest social media audience growth rate at 12.9%.
  • Dior is the most influential luxury brand on social media, with over 119 million annual engagements across channels (vs 26 million on average for the other brands on our list).
  • Dior is the most prolific social media poster (3,033 annual posts), more than double the average frequency of the other brands on our list. Hermès is the least active, with 381 yearly posts.
  • Gucci’s online popularity is at its lowest point (10.7% in 2024 vs. 17.52% at its highest in 2020).
  • Tiffany & Co. is particularly good at creating shareable content for social media. The luxury jewelry brand is the third most viral brand on our list, after Louis Vuitton and Dior.
  • Burberry is the only luxury brand on our list, losing social media followers.
  • Collaborations with celebrity influencers and new ambassador announcements, notably from the Asia-Pacific region (like K-pop stars ) and a new generation of A-listers (from Zendaya to Kendall Jenner ), tend to boost online engagement.
  • Looking at the most popular topics and hashtags, high-profile events (runway shows, awards season, and red-carpet events like #MetGala) and special collections also drive online conversations.

Methodology and sources: How we rank the best luxury brands of the year

Luxe Digital Titans: Personal luxury goods edition aims to provide a current and insightful analysis of the most popular luxury brands online. Our annual ranking offers a clear picture of how each brand is performing online and can help business leaders predict future growth.

With over a decade of experience in luxury and even more in online marketing, our team has a deep understanding of what drives a brand’s popularity among affluent consumers. We know how crucial a thoughtful digital marketing strategy is to business growth.

To create this ranking, we start our analysis using a list from Deloitte of the world’s top 100 luxury goods companies based on consolidated sales. Deloitte’s report also includes the group’s perspectives on key future trends that will shape the luxury industry and is worth reading for anyone interested in the industry.

We then extract luxury companies from Forbes’ top 100 most valuable brands list. Forbes’ list is arguably more open to interpretation as it takes into account several data points that are not necessarily consistently available for all brands. However, when combined with the actual sales figures from Deloitte’s reports, we are confident that we can get a solid starting point.

Next, we use Google Trends to measure actual search interest for each luxury brand online. We use the brand with the highest single-point search interest on the list as the benchmark against which to measure all the other brands on our list. This gives us a unified comparison point against which to stack every other brand.

After observing a significant concentration of the share of search interest among the top 15 luxury brands on our list, we summed up their individual average search interest for the year to get a baseline of the total search interest for the top 15 brands. We then calculate a ratio for each brand against that total to get their share of the total search interest.

For each of the remaining top 15 brands, we then used a combination of SimilarWeb and RivalIQ data to measure their web traffic and social media audience and engagement, respectively. This data does not directly weigh on our ranking but helps give more context to each brand’s performance throughout the year.

Definitions

Our summary table at the top of this article refers to the following terms:

  • Share of search interest is calculated based on worldwide Google Trends data. We measure the absolute search interest for each of the top luxury brands during the period and calculate how much attention they receive compared to the other brands in our ranking as a percentage of the total search interest for luxury brands.
  • Website traffic is estimated based on SimilarWeb data using the primary brand domain.
  • Social media audience is calculated based on Rival IQ reports for each brand as of May 2024. It represents the sum of Facebook Fans, Instagram Followers, Twitter (X) Followers, and YouTube Subscribers.
  • Social media engagement rate is calculated based on Rival IQ reports for each brand from May 2023 to May 2024. It represents the monthly average of the annual total number of engagement actions across all tracked social channels, combining comments, likes, and shares, divided by the total audience.

Best TVs

While finding the best television on the market is difficult because everyone has different needs, you can easily narrow your search by looking for the best option based on your price range. High-end TVs deliver the best picture quality, but they're also expensive, so if you want something cheaper, you'll have to sacrifice some features. However, most 4k TVs are good enough for most content. Choosing the best TV on the market also depends on the content you watch and where you're going to place it; if you watch a lot of 4k HDR content, you might want a top-quality TV, but if you're just watching the news on a cable box in a dim room, you can go for something cheaper.

Even though 2024 models are being released and starting to become available, they're usually not worth buying in the first few months as they're significantly more expensive than previous year's models, but they do eventually drop in price. On top of that, last year's models tend to drop to their lowest price point after the new models have been released. You can learn more about price changes in our article about  when to buy a TV . You can also  vote on which new models you want us to buy and test. To learn more about the 2024 models, check out our 2024 TV lineup page .

We've bought and tested more than 430 TVs, and below are our picks for the best TVs on the market. Also, make sure to check out our picks for the best smart TVs , the best gaming TVs , and the  best budget TVs .

Samsung S90C OLED Design Picture

The best TV we've tested is the Samsung S90C OLED. It's a fantastic TV with a great selection of extra features and incredible picture quality. It looks fantastic in a dark room thanks to its nearly infinite contrast ratio and perfect black uniformity, with no distracting blooming around bright areas of the screen. HDR content looks fantastic thanks to its high peak brightness, wide color gamut, and incredibly vibrant and realistic colors. Unlike some other TVs, the Samsung model doesn't support Dolby Vision HDR, nor does it support advanced DTS audio formats. It does support Samsung's less widely used HDR10+ format, which looks just as good as Dolby Vision. It's available in four sizes: 55, 65, 77, and 83 inches, although the 83-inch model uses a WOLED panel, so it looks different from the smaller sizes.

The built-in Tizen OS interface is easy to use and has a great selection of streaming apps and games. It's a fantastic TV for console gamers looking to get the most out of their Xbox Series X or PS5. It's also perfect for gamers wanting to take advantage of their recent PC GPU, as it supports 4k @ 144Hz gaming on all four HDMI ports and variable refresh rate (VRR) technology to help reduce screen tearing. If you have money to burn, you could opt for the Samsung S95C OLED instead. It's Samsung's 2023 flagship option and is an amazing TV. It's brighter than the S90C, but for most people, it's not worth the significant price premium over its lower-tier sibling.

The Samsung S90D/S90DD OLED is now available. The TV has some improvements over the S90C, like better HDR gradient handling, better low-quality content smoothing, and better HDR brightness. The improvements are minor though, and the TV is very expensive at launch. Unless you want those minor upgrades, the cheaper S90C is the best TV to buy while it's still available and on sale. It's worth mentioning that Samsung has made the bizarre decision to release the same-sized S90Ds with both QD-OLED and WOLED panels. Since there isn't a simple way to determine what panel type you get, this choice is sure to confuse and disappoint customers.

Best Home Theater TV

Sony A95L OLED Design Picture

If you're looking for the absolute best TV for a home theater setup and don't care as much about the price, check out the Sony A95L OLED. Although it's a very similar TV to the Samsung S90C OLED , it's better for home theaters thanks to its advanced video format support. Compared to Samsung's HDR10+ format, the Sony TV supports the more popular Dolby Vision HDR, so you'll enjoy the most advanced HDR experience possible from almost any source. Sony's processing does a better job following the content creator's intent, so the brightness and colors of HDR content look the way they're supposed to. It also offers better audio format support than the Samsung, including DTS:X passthrough over eARC, so you can simplify your connection to your audio-video receiver by running everything through your TV without sacrificing audio quality.

Like the Samsung TV, it looks stunning in a dark room thanks to its nearly infinite contrast ratio, delivering perfect blacks with no distracting blooming around bright areas of the screen. Finally, the TV is available in three sizes: 55, 65, and 77 inches. Unfortunately, the A95L is very expensive, so if you want a Sony OLED specifically for its processing capabilities, the Sony A80L/A80CL OLED is much cheaper. Still, it's a big step down in brightness and color vibrancy.

Sony X93L/X93CL Design Picture

If you mainly watch TV in a bright room, a TV with an LED backlight and higher peak brightness, like the Sony X93L/X93CL, is a better choice than the top two picks on this list. It's an excellent TV with impressive picture quality and an incredible peak brightness that helps it overcome glare in a bright room. It still looks good in a dark room thanks to its high contrast ratio and Mini LED local dimming feature, but there's more distracting blooming around bright highlights and subtitles in darker scenes compared to an OLED TV.

It has nearly identical features to the Sony A95L OLED , with a great selection of gaming features, including HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two ports, so the TV can fully utilize the latest consoles or PC graphics cards. It also has an excellent response time and fantastic input lag for a very responsive gaming experience. It supports HDMI Forum VRR and G-SYNC, so VRR works with any recent source. It's available in three sizes, from a 65-inch size to a huge 85-inch model. All sizes deliver incredible picture quality, with an adequate viewing angle, deep blacks, and a wide color gamut for HDR content. For those with deep pockets, the Sony X95L is the best LED TV on the market but is only available in an 85-inch size in North America. Plus, as amazing as it is, it's not worth the price increase over the X93L for most people.

Best Upper Mid-Range TV

LG C3 OLED Design Picture

If you want a good home entertainment OLED but don't want to get the expensive Sony A95L OLED , check out one of the best upper mid-range TVs we've tested, the LG C3 OLED. It's a premium TV that delivers stunning picture quality, especially in dark rooms, and thanks to its near-infinite contrast ratio, there's no blooming around bright objects. It gets bright enough to fight glare even in moderately lit rooms, and the reflection handling is incredible, but its colors aren't as bright as some of our other picks. The LG partly makes up for it with its versatility, as it has very good image processing, has Dolby Vision HDR support with Dolby Vision gaming at 120Hz, and can passthrough advanced DTS audio formats. Like the Sony TVs, the LG supports Dolby Vision HDR, which is more widely used than Samsung's competing HDR10+.

The TV is available in a wider range of sizes, from a small 42-inch to an impressive 83-inch option. It's an amazing TV for gaming thanks to its nearly instantaneous response time, low input lag, and great selection of gaming features. It supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four inputs, meaning you can take full advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X's capabilities with 4k @ 120 fps gaming. It has native FreeSync, HDMI Forum VRR support, and G-SYNC compatibility to reduce screen tearing. If you love this TV but wish it were more vibrant, consider the more expensive LG G3 OLED . The G3 is one of the brightest OLEDs on the market and is certainly brighter than the C3, but it's not worth the price difference for most people.

2024's LG C4 OLED is now on the market. It can do up to 4k @ 144Hz, is a bit more accurate with HDR content, and gets a bit brighter in HDR. Unfortunately, it also has a noticeable green tint when viewed from an angle, so the C3 is better for use in a group setting. Unless you want those minor upgrades and don't plan on using it to watch TV with friends or family, you're better off getting the cheaper C3 OLED while it's on sale.

Best Mid-Range TV

LG B3 OLED Design Picture

The LG B3 OLED is the best mid-range TV we've tested if you want something cheaper and still want high-end features. It's a great mid-range TV and can be an excellent entry point into the OLED market. The TV has all the features of the more expensive LG C3 OLED , but the B3 is dimmer and has only two HDMI 2.1 bandwidth ports. It still delivers outstanding picture quality, especially in a dark room, with its near-infinite contrast ratio delivering deep, inky blacks with no distracting blooming. Its built-in webOS platform is just as fast on this lower-tier model, and it still has very good image processing, so it has no issues upscaling lower-resolution content if you watch DVDs, cable boxes, or Blu-rays. It also has Dolby Vision HDR and supports DTS advanced audio formats, which is great for physical media as it tends to use DTS for their audio tracks.

And just like other OLEDs, its viewing angle is fantastic, so viewers can watch the TV from all over the room with no degradation in their viewing experience. Like the C3, this TV has a wide color gamut and is extremely accurate without any calibration, so movies look as the content creator intended. This TV is also great for gaming, as it's compatible with every VRR technology, has a fantastic response time, and has an extremely low input lag. Its two HDMI 2.1 ports have up to 4k @ 120Hz support, although unfortunately, like on the Sony X93L , one of its HDMI 2.1 ports also doubles as the TV's eARC port, leaving you with only one high-speed port if you have a soundbar connected through eARC.

2024's LG B4 OLED is now available, and it brings some improvements. It gets noticeably brighter in both SDR and HDR, so it handles more glare in a bright room when watching SDR content, and highlights stand out more in HDR content. On top of that, it has better HDR gradient handling, and LG has increased the number of HDMI 2.1 bandwidth ports to four. The B4 is also available in a new 48-inch model. Unfortunately, it's currently very expensive, so unless you want those upgrades, you're better off getting the B3 while it's on sale. If you need those things, you can also get the LG C3 OLED for less than the cost of a B4.

Best Lower Mid-Range TV

Hisense U7K [U7, U75K] Design Picture

The best lower mid-range TV available is the Hisense U7K. It's cheaper than anything recommended up to this point but delivers picture quality that is almost as good as the more expensive choices. It has a great Mini LED backlight, letting it simultaneously provide incredibly bright highlights and deep blacks, with barely any blooming around bright objects in dark scenes. HDR content looks great, and it supports both Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10+ for the best HDR experience possible, as well as advanced audio formats, like DTS:X over eARC, for the best sound when watching content on physical media. The U7K also has very good image processing overall, making it a cheaper standout for a home entertainment setup, although it's not as good as the Sony X93L and the Sony A95L OLED in that regard.

Unfortunately, the TV has a sub-par viewing angle, making it a bad choice for a wide seating arrangement. It runs the Google TV interface, which is fast and easy to use, and it has a great selection of streaming features, so you're sure to find your favorite shows. It's great for gaming thanks to its Dolby Vision HDR 120Hz support and two HDMI 2.1 bandwidth ports, both capable of up to 4k @ 144Hz gaming with VRR. This makes the TV a standout choice for PC gamers with powerful rigs, and it's fully compatible with recent consoles. It's a hard TV to beat because of its relatively low price point.

The 2024 Hisense U7N is now available. It's supposed to have some improvements like better contrast, increased brightness, and a new chipset. It's also very expensive at launch, so unless you need those incremental upgrades, you're better off getting the cheaper U7K while it's still available and on sale.

Best Budget TV

Hisense U6/U6K Design Picture

If you want to spend less, the best budget TV we've tested is the Hisense U6/U6K. It delivers surprisingly great performance for the price. The Hisense has excellent contrast, so dark scenes look amazing in a dark room, with little blooming around bright areas of the screen. It also has good peak brightness in SDR and decent reflection handling, so glare isn't an issue in a brighter room. It has an excellent color volume, making this TV very colorful overall. It's bright enough in HDR for a pleasant viewing experience, and just like the Hisense U7K , it supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR, although it doesn't support advanced DTS audio formats.

Unfortunately, its image processing is significantly worse than that of the U7K, so there's visible digital noise when watching low-bitrate content from streaming platforms. Still, it's a good TV for gaming, as it has superbly low input lag and variable refresh rate support for a responsive, nearly tear-free gaming experience. Unlike its more expensive sibling, it's limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, which is disappointing for gamers wanting to take full advantage of their Xbox Series X, PS5, or recent gaming GPU. It's still great for visually intensive games on consoles targeting 4k @ 60Hz in their 'Graphics' mode or for 60 fps PC gaming.

The 2024 Hisense U6N is now available. It's supposed to have an increase in brightness and a better local dimming feature to further improve contrast. The improvements it has are likely quite minor, so you're better off getting the cheaper U6K while it's on sale.

Best Cheap TV

Roku Select Series Design Picture

It's not the best TV in the world, but if you want something cheap that gets the job done, the Roku Select Series is the best widely available cheap TV we've tested. It isn't as good in a dark room as the Hisense U6K due to its lack of local dimming, although its contrast and black uniformity are certainly good enough for a pleasant dark room viewing experience. It doesn't get very bright in HDR, but it has decent reflection handling, so it can handle a few lights in a moderately lit room. Alternatively, its SDR brightness is good, so it's more versatile if you mostly watch SDR content. It's also at its best when watching high-quality 4k content, as its image processing is disappointing overall.

As it's one of the two first-ever TVs made by Roku, it runs the Roku TV smart interface, which is extremely fast. It has wide streaming app selections, so you can easily find your favorite shows and movies. Its remote even has an integrated microphone for voice commands, which is great for a cheap TV. Even better, you can plug headphones into the remote for private listening, a great feature at this price range. Still, if you're a Costco member, get the Hisense A65K  instead. You can find it for a price similar to the Roku, but it's a bit better overall.

  • TCL QM8/QM850G QLED: The TCL QM8/QM850G QLED is a seriously bright TV that will light up any living room. It's also well-priced, being significantly cheaper than the Sony X93L/X93CL. Unfortunately, it has a ton of quirks and bugs that make it hard to recommend, even with its incredible performance. Plus, the Hisense U7K is almost as good at a lower price. See our review
  • Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED: The Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED is a great TV and a strong competitor to the Sony X93L/X93CL. Still, the Sony is more well-rounded; it has better image processing and advanced audio and video format support. Ultimately, the Samsung is slightly better for bright rooms or users with multiple HDMI 2.1 devices, while the Sony is somewhat better for everyone else. See our review
  • TCL Q5/Q550G QLED: The Best Buy exclusive TCL Q5/Q550G QLED is a decent TV from TCL and directly competes with the Hisense U6/U6K. The Hisense is a bit better overall and can emphasize highlights better due to its local dimming. Still, the TCL is the better gaming TV because it outputs 1080p @ 120Hz and 1440p @ 120Hz, with a wide VRR range through resolution halving on the 55-inch and 65-inch models. See our review
  • Roku Plus Series QLED: The Roku Plus Series QLED is an alternative to the Hisense U6/U6K. It offers slightly better image quality than the Hisense, but the Hisense has more features, has better image processing, and is the more accurate TV of the two. See our review
  • Sony A75L OLED: The Sony A75L OLED is a good alternative to the LG B3 OLED. Unfortunately, its price is too close to that of the better LG C3 OLED, making the Sony TV a tough value proposition. If you can find it for a price closer to the B3, the Sony is a tad better overall due to its better image processing capabilities and slightly brighter panel. See our review
  • TCL Q7/Q750G QLED: The TCL Q7/Q750G QLED is a good alternative to the Hisense U7K. Still, the Hisense is better overall as its response time is more consistent when its refresh rate fluctuates, and it's also the more colorful and vibrant TV overall. See our review

Our recommendations above are what we think are currently the best TVs for most people in each price range. We factor in the price (a cheaper TV wins over a pricier one if the difference isn't worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no TVs that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

If you would like to do the work of choosing yourself, here is the list of all our reviews of TVs. Be careful not to get too caught up in the details. While no TV is perfect, most TVs are great enough to please almost everyone, and the differences are often not noticeable unless you really look for them.

Wolf, Sub-Zero and Cove

Signature kitchen suite (sks), how we picked, what to look for when shopping for high-end kitchen appliances, what is the most expensive kitchen appliance, where to buy high-end kitchen appliances.

In the Good Housekeeping Institute , we test all types of large appliances — from the best ovens to the best dishwashers . When we decide what to test, we consider the latest and greatest on the market as well as best sellers from the most popular brands. We also work with brand representatives and product managers to learn about any new features so our experts can design the most helpful tests.

These are the best luxury appliance brands you can buy. We've also included some of the top-performing products from each brand, according to Lab and consumer tests.

Miele 24-Inch Fully Integrated Built-In Smart Dishwasher

24-Inch Fully Integrated Built-In Smart Dishwasher

Miele is a German appliance company known for high-quality kitchen appliances and cleaning appliances. The brand has several products that have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal, and its built-in fridge, freezer, dishwasher, gas cooktop and built-in oven, combi-steam oven and espresso maker are put to use daily in our Innovation Kitchen. In addition to all of these appliances, Miele makes an assortment of gas and induction ranges and induction cooktops, plus vacuums ( this vacuum is our Cleaning Lab's favorite ) and more.

Two of the Miele products that stood out during Lab tests are this new induction range that has a steam-boost option and the built-in dishwasher that Carolyn Forté , our Executive Home Care and Cleaning Lab Director, says cleans very well and uses a cartridge called a PowerDisk to dispense detergent for up to 20 washes. We also love the countertop espresso machine that made rich, smooth espresso and espresso drinks and some of the silkiest frothed milk in our tests.

Dan DiClerico , director of our Home Improvement & Outdoor Lab, chose Miele appliances when he remodeled his family’s home a few years ago. “I love the sleek, built-in look and that the appliances have held up extremely well, even though we work them very hard,” he says.

Gaggenau 24-Inch Fully Automatic Built-In Smart Coffee Machine

Gaggenau 15-Inch Gas Cooktop

15-Inch Gas Cooktop

When we think of Gaggenau, we picture super high-end kitchen appliances that are sleek and blend seamlessly into their environment. The brand's products are also known to be long-lasting. Gaggenau is a German appliance brand that’s part of the Thermador and Bosch family. It touts that it's the first brand to make the combi-steam oven — a cooking appliance that’s popular in restaurants and slowly making its way into home kitchens. Gaggenau makes a wide variety of other kitchen appliances as well, including this built-in espresso maker that earned a Kitchen Gear Award in 2022 (and made us wish we had one in our home!). Like many of the brand's appliances, the espresso machine included premium features like a highly responsive touchscreen and many customizable coffee options for everyone in your household.

Another Gaggenau appliance that stood out to us when we toured the showroom and met with the team is this customizable cooktop: The design allows you to choose as many burners — and styles of burners — as you’d like to build the perfect cooking area. We were also intrigued by the company's ventilation system that gets built into your counter, though we haven’t gotten a chance to test it yet.

Thermador Star-Sapphire Series Dishwasher

Star-Sapphire Series Dishwasher

Both professional cooks and experienced home cooks can appreciate Thermador, which has a reputation for reliability. It's a premium brand and the middle tier of the Gaggenau and Bosch family of appliances. The appliances offer high power and durable features like handles and knbs, and the star-shaped burner is a signature on its ranges and ovens, which offer generous cooking space, like this Pro Harmony model. Some of our test kitchens at Hearst are equipped with Thermador gas ranges, which are used multiple times daily. We like the range of the BTUs on the burners, from 18,000 all the way up to 22,000, which provides high heat. Thermador also makes great refrigerators that catch our eye when we see them at trade shows and in showrooms: They’re large, spacious and bright with sleek exteriors.

Our Cleaning Lab has evaluated this dishwasher before, and Forté noted that it’s one of the quietest she’s ever tested. She also commented on its large capacity, the brand’s noticeable attention to detail and the "Crystal Dry" feature, which is especially good at drying plastics — a difficult task!

Wolf 30-Inch Pro-Style Gas Range

Cove 24 Inch Fully Integrated Panel Ready Built-In Smart Dishwasher

24 Inch Fully Integrated Panel Ready Built-In Smart Dishwasher

Some people may not know that Wolf, Sub-Zero and Cove are all part of the same high-end kitchen appliance company. Wolf makes the signature red-knobbed ranges you might have seen in TV kitchens. (Fun fact: The knobs can be swapped out for a different color or finish if the bold red is not your thing!) Sub-Zero makes built-in refrigerators, and Cove makes dishwashers. We just started testing the Wolf gas range shown above and are thus far impressed by its sturdy build and assortment of burners.

As for Sub-Zero, we've heard from people who’ve had models in their homes for decades that they’re expensive to repair if something goes wrong. Our Cleaning Lab has tested one of the Cove dishwashers in the past (pictured here), and our pros report that it’s a good option, especially if you’re shopping for all three appliances at once.

Viking 36-Inch Freestanding Dual Fuel Range

36-Inch Freestanding Dual Fuel Range

Viking Viking 3 Series 36-Inch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Viking 3 Series 36-Inch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

High-end kitchen appliance brand Viking offers different tiers of appliances that cater to different price points. We’ve been testing this new, mid-tier gas burner and are impressed by its results. In our Lab tests, it brought water to a boil quickly and was also able to maintain a steady simmer. It’s decked out with thoughtful details that make it easier to use and clean, like brightly lit knobs and grates that fit over each individual burner. It seems to be designed with professionals in mind with strong features that’ll last.

We’re also currently testing one of Viking’s stand-alone refrigerators. We’re happy with its capacity, design and temperature control. One downside: The stainless steel finish is not fingerprint resistant.

JennAir 36-Inch Smart Freestanding Gas Range with Wi-Fi

36-Inch Smart Freestanding Gas Range with Wi-Fi

JennAir 36-Inch Panel-Ready Built-In French Door Refrigerator

36-Inch Panel-Ready Built-In French Door Refrigerator

JennAir is the premium, design-focused brand within the KitchenAid and Whirlpool family. Its kitchen appliances stop us in our tracks every time we see them, particularly the built-in fridges and ranges. They have an industrial feel with sturdy handles and a lot of mixed metal accents, and the result is quite luxe.

We’ve been testing the 36-inch Obsidian fridge (pictured above), which still feels like the most extravagant fridge we’ve ever seen every time we use it. It’s sleek, can be fitted with panels to match your kitchen and has a unique black interior, which our tester says it looks great. She notes that food has a spotlight on it and it looks fresh and inviting. She also reports that the interior is roomy and meets the needs of her three-person family. "It’s really exceptional from a capacity perspective — and it's quiet,” she says.

We’re also testing JennAir’s 36-inch Rise range, and we performed long-term Lab testing on a now-discontinued model before we had to swap it. For each, we've noted that it was strong, durable and offered reliable performance. Our Cleaning Lab experts are also pleased with the dishwasher they tested and recently rated it one of the best dishwashers you can buy. Forté says it, too, has a high-end interior and is quiet. She was particularly impressed with the top rack that’s deeper than others she has tested; it accommodates a wide variety of dishes, cookware and more.

Dacor 36-Inch Smart Dual Fuel Range

36-Inch Smart Dual Fuel Range

Dacor 24-Inch Wine Column

24-Inch Wine Column

Dacor is Samsung’s luxury brand. The products are well suited to people who love to entertain, because they're pretty, sleek and often cater toward having guests over — for example, you can swap the gas ranges' black burners for gold ones. They also have stunning wine fridges and wine preservation systems, and their everyday fridges can make cocktail ice.

So far we've tested one of Dacor's gas ranges. Lab Analyst Eva Bleyer said the six-burner range excelled at our heat distribution tests for ovens, in which we toast white bread on different settings to see how evenly golden it gets. The range also has a steam function, which made tender salmon with a crispy skin.

Other Dacor items that caught our eye are the wine fridges, but we haven't tested one yet.

Signature Kitchen Suite 48-inch Dual-Fuel Pro Range with Sous Vide and Induction

48-inch Dual-Fuel Pro Range with Sous Vide and Induction

Signature Kitchen Suite 48-inch Built-in French Door Refrigerator

48-inch Built-in French Door Refrigerator

The SKS brand is LG’s top-tier category. While we haven’t tested many SKS products yet, we’ve gotten the chance to be hands-on with some of the ranges and fridges. One range that stands out is the 48-inch dual-fuel pro range that professionals and cooking enthusiasts would love: It features gas burners, induction burners and a compartment for sous vide. The convection oven features a steam setting, too, which truly makes it an all-in-one cooking appliance.

LG products often score “best overall” in our Lab tests, which makes us excited to try SKS products that are designed to be even better. We’re gearing up to start testing their 48-inch fridge that's panel-ready, offers a ton of storage space and includes a craft ice maker and a regular ice maker.

Cafe 36-Inch Counter Depth French Door Smart Refrigerator

36-Inch Counter Depth French Door Smart Refrigerator

Cafe 30-Inch Slide-In Induction Smart Range

30-Inch Slide-In Induction Smart Range

While Café is not the most premium of the GE brands (that title goes to the company's Monogram line), we can’t help but include it in our list of best high-end kitchen appliances. Café offers an approachable price point for those looking for high-end products. The appliances are design-forward and come in a variety of finishes and mixed metal accessories. One GH editor can’t say enough good things about her fridge that connects to an app, offers ample storage and has good lighting. An upgraded model has just been released, too, which has a dual-dispense autofill pitcher. We’re also about to start testing Café's induction range with dual oven.

GE kitchen products have tested well for us in the past; they offer good value, performance and longevity. We look forward to testing products from Monogram, GE's most premium brand, which offers many large built-in fridges, stunning cooktops and more like a built-in pizza oven. Dreamy!

La Cornue CornuFé 110 Range

CornuFé 110 Range

La Cornue FLAMBERGE RÔTISSERIE

FLAMBERGE RÔTISSERIE

While we haven’t tested appliances from Le Cornue, it’s surely a high-end brand. It's French-inspired and part of the Middleby family of brands that includes Viking as well as high-end grill companies Lynx and Kamado Joe. The two oven styles, CornuFé and Chateau, have a signature look that you can spot from a distance thanks to rich, antique-looking finishes and ornate knobs and detailing. They both come in a wide variety of color schemes, and you can even customize your own color, finishes and burner styles.

Le Cornue also offers a built-in rotisserie that will truly impress guests. It has a visible flame and a large glass front panel, so it's a conversation starter in most any home.

The Good Housekeeping Institute began testing products back in the early 1900s. Each year, our team of analysts, engineers, chemists, product experts, cooks and registered dietitians continue to test thousands of products to help our readers determine what’s the best to buy based on their personal needs.

To come up with this list, our Kitchen Appliances Lab, Cleaning Lab and Home Improvement Lab — all of which test a lot of built-in appliances — shared data and insights on the brands and products that have impressed us most over the years in terms of performance and value. We selected brands and products that we've tested, that have performed well or that we’d buy ourselves and recommend to friends and families.

  • Design: High-end kitchen appliances are one of the categories where we feel like it's OK to start your search based on looks. High-end appliances are often quality products, so you'll end up with the function you also need, but focusing on the many customizable features means you can find the appliance that fits your home's design.
  • Price point: Luxury appliances can cost a pretty penny. Getting a sense of a brand's price range can help you determine which is best for you.
  • Features: Some brands have more bells and whistles than others, which can affect how you interact with the appliances daily. When shopping, be sure to take a look at the product's controls to make sure they work for you.

Refrigerators tend to be the most expensive appliance in the kitchen, especially built-in ones. The trade-off is that they're designed to last for a long time. Many brands offer at least limited warranties that start around seven to 10 years. Some may offer longer ones.

You can buy high-end kitchen appliances in some retail stores like AJ Madison and sometimes Williams-Sonoma, but they're mostly sold through showrooms or design stores with which the brands have relationships. We recommend going to a showroom or store where you can get a feel for all of the different appliances a brand has to offer; doing so will help you make the right choice for you even if you end up buying online. Showrooms are also great places to learn about the products — some even offer cooking classes or trainings so you can best use your product when you bring it home.

High-end department stores are not to be confused with shopping galleries or malls such as Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan or Bal Harbour Mall in Florida. These shopping malls feature a range of stores that are owned by different companies. Many retailers are focusing on off mall locations – smaller format stores that offer unique shopping experiences.

Luxury department stores may have in-store concessions such as Louis Vuitton but they are all part of the same building. They also differ from concept stores like Dover Street Market in London, Merci in Paris or 10 Corso Como in Milan. The latter type of retail space is typically smaller than a department store and sells products from an eclectic range of independent suppliers.

It is clear that luxury department stores offer an entirely different kind of shopping experience. A higher level of customer service and a more VIP feel is the focus in order to keep their customers returning time and time again.

Best high-end record players 2024: ultimate premium turntables tested by experts

Desirable record players for those with deep pockets

Rega Planar 10/Apheta 3

  • Best high-end turntables
  • How to choose
  • How we test

We like to think we have high standards, but when it comes to the best high-end record players, things go up a notch or five. That's because exquisitely engineered and exceptional sounding turntables don't come cheap, and we know those who buy them are serious about their hi-fi performance and have (or should have) suitable high-end hi-fi systems to match.

While our best record players guide covers budget options to fairly premium models that are still within 'real world' money that most music fans can go buy and set up with ease, truly high-end turntables are a bit more complicated – you'll need to go see a specialist retailer and choose your own cartridge, for instance, and you'll want to listen to it before making such a huge purchase. We give further advice on what to consider when choosing a high-end turntable, as well as our testing process , below.

If you are serious about your hi-fi (especially in vinyl form) and you want to get the ultimate performance from your beloved record collection – and have deep pockets to match – you'll find on this list the finest, hang-the-expense high-end record players to have graced our testing rooms over the years.

Each deck has been tested and reviewed by the experienced team at What Hi-Fi? in our dedicated listening rooms. Read on and get a feel for just how capable these stunning record players are. And start saving up...

The best high-end record players

Linn Klimax LP12 turntable

1. Linn Klimax LP12

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

Originally introduced back in 1973, the LP12 is still a massively capable and neatly configured deck that puts many a young gun to shame. It's been updated and modernised over the years, but the quality and performance have remained impeccable. Even when you factor in the five-figure price tag, the Klimax LP12 represents value for money and is one of the best high-end record players we've ever had the pleasure of testing.

This configuration sees the basic deck (called Sondek LP12) partnered with an Ekos SE tonearm and Kandid moving-coil cartridge. There's also an Urika phono stage, Radikal power supply and Keel sub-chassis all of which combine to make this a truly high-end turntable. We tested it originally at £18,670 (around $22,180 / AU$32,925) but as of 2023, the deck is available in the link provided above for £25,100, around $31,000 / AU$48,655).

And it's all worth every penny because this deck is impressively precise and smooth, beautifully made (the arm tube is made of titanium) and sounds wonderfully musical. Detail resolution, agility and transparency have improved over the years, resulting in a high-end record player that never loses its composure.

If you want scale, power, passion and all manner of sonic fireworks, the Klimax LP12 is the money-no-object choice.

Best high-end record players: Rega Planar 10/Apheta 3

2. Rega Planar 10/Apheta 3

Rega has picked up plenty of awards for its more modest offerings, but the Planar 10/Apheta 3 combination sets sky-high standards for the money and serves up plenty of insight and detail.

The company's mainstream range-topper, the Planar 10 is well-made and visually striking. You could buy the Planar 10 without a cartridge but Rega’s Apheta 3 makes the ideal partner. We tested the deck at £4499 / $6695 / AU$9499, but current prices have the Planar 10 set at £4950 (roughly $6,255 / AU$9597 with the Aphetea 3 and £6840 ($8643 / AU$13,263) with the Aphelion 2 MC.

There's plenty of elegant engineering to admire, including a single-piece machined aluminium sub-platter with a hardened tool steel spindle running inside a custom brass housing. As for the belt, Rega spent three years developing the material used.

When it comes to sound, there is transparency, resolution and dynamic expression in spades. It's a natural and measured performance that is mature and authoritative, with plenty of weight to bass frequencies.

All in all, this high-end record player is as good as it gets for the money. And if you like that it resembles a work of art, this is the deck for you.

Technics SL-1000R

3. Technics SL-1000R

At the top of Technics' range of turntables sits the SL-1000R. It won't suit everyone's budget and weighing in at 40kg, you'll probably need another pair of hands to shift it. But from the magnesium S-shaped tonearm to the adjustable feet, build quality and finish are as precise as a Japanese bullet train.

Unusually for a high-end turntable, Technics has opted for a direct drive motor rather than a belt drive, but great care has been taken to reduce vibration. Technics pioneered the direct drive turntable design in the 70s, and the SL-1000R delivers excellent speed stability at 33.3, 45 and 78rpm. It also features a 7.9kg triple-layered platter and comes with an external power supply. As with most options at this price (£18,999 / $24,000 / around AU$47,867), you'll need to supply your own cartridge.

The SL1000R's sound quality is seriously punchy and tuneful. We're impressed with its delivery of tight, beautifully-defined bass and deeply impressive levels of scale and authority. It might seem expensive, but the SL-1000R will go toe-to-toe with any rival in this price bracket. Truly a fantastic beast.

Ketan Bharadia

I've been reviewing turntables for over 25 years, from budget to high-end models, and there is extra care needed when testing and listening to a high-end record player. At this level, you get a choice of the cartridge you want to use, and it may not necessarily come from the same brand that makes the turntable. Take the Technics SL-1000R for example – we use this as our reference deck in our What Hi-Fi? test room, and use a Kiseki Purple Heart moving coil cartridge as the recommended pairing. More recently we have also used the new Vertere Dark Sabre moving magnet cartridge as an alternative. It all comes down to what is recommended by the manufacturer – or the dealer – when it comes to choosing the right options for your turntable. It's important to listen to the turntable with each option too, so make sure you're able to demo the high-end turntable before making a purchase.

Vertere MG-1 Mk II/Mystic

4. Vertere Acoustics MG-1 MkII/Mystic

With over 35 years of experience under its belt, Vertere - originally a maker of high-end cables – knows a thing or two about polished performers. The MG-1 MkII is a fine transition into the world of high-end record players and delivers an astonishingly clean, compelling sound.

Designed to make a statement it's packed with nice details, from the triple-layered, vibration-reducing acrylic structure to the removable centre spindle on the platter, which prevents noise from the bearing being directly transmitted to the record surface.

It's best paired with Vertere’s in-house moving coil cartridge, the Mystic. Machined from solid aluminium, it's a perfect fit, tracks well at 2.0g and is easy to fit thanks to threaded bolts.

The sound is super-agile and we were awed by the level of dynamic expression on display. This is a high-end record player that packs enough energy to drive each and every crescendo with ease.

You'll struggle to hear anything better than this Vertere package at this money, even with recent prices rising to £11,950 – £12,950 (around $15,103 - $16,366 /  AU$23,158 - 25,099AU$ depending on your choice of finish.

Best high-end record players: VPI Prime 21+

5. VPI Prime 21+

The new VPI Prime 21+ builds on one of our favourite turntables with an upgraded design that improves performance and ease of use.

Just to be clear, there are actually two versions of this deck. The ‘21+’ model costs around £6500 ($6500, around AU$11,450) and includes the brand-new VPI Shyla moving coil cartridge and the company’s Weisline tonearm, while the base '21' model misses out on these two options but costs much less – around £4500 ($4500, around AU$8000).

If you can stretch to the 21+, you won't be disappointed. It's engineered to sing and, like previous VPI's Prime turntables, dishes up plenty of clarity and precision. Sound is big and bold without overstepping the mark, delivering punch and insight that put it among the class leaders in this category.

It doesn't quite have the drive of the Vetere MG-1 or the rhythmic snap of the superb Rega Planar 10 (both listed above), but the VPI Prime 21+ does combine its impressive sense of power with easy set-up and a generous supply of accessories in the box.  And for those reasons, this one has to be on your shortlist.

Clearaudio Ovation

6. Clearaudio Ovation

The Clearaudio Ovation is the Clark Kent of high-end record players: its superpowers are neatly hidden under conventional looks. It's a terrific all-rounder brimming with clever engineering solutions. There's plenty of choice when it comes to picking a cartridge – Clearaudio makes a varied and impressive range, so you can take things up a notch should your budget allow. The Ovation currently retails at around £6300 (around $7960 / AU$12,207) back in 2014, with a Talismann v2 Gold moving coil cartridge costing you north of a £1000 / $1263 / AU$2000.

Build quality is pretty much bulletproof. The Ovation’s plinth boasts a sandwich construction made up of two plates of aluminium encapsulating a layer of Panzerholz (a dense, heavily processed wood that’s said to be bulletproof). It's also an effective damping agent.

How does it sound? Refined, enthusiastic and blessed with a level of bite and verve that belies its classy styling.  A fuss-free deck that serves up a full-bodied performance. On a tighter budget? You might also consider the four-star Clearaudio Active MM , which performs brilliantly considering it's around half the price of this deck.

Turntable: SME Model 60

7. SME Model 60

SME doesn’t launch many new products, but when it does they’re obsessively engineered and usually stay in production for decades. This SME 60 is an immaculate evolution of a 30-year flagship, but takes advantage of modern production techniques and materials where needed. Those are evidenced in the 5A tonearm, machined from a block of high-tech polymer resin, whose well-damped property helps reduce armtube resonances.

SME doesn't make its own cartridges, so we tested this package (which cost £49,950 / $50,519 / AU$72,484) with a highly-regarded Ortofon Windfeld Ti moving coil model. Yes, it's a pricey package, but the build quality is exceptional and you'll need to treat it to appropriate partnering kit to get the best out of it. While the SME 60 may be a precision instrument, it still has the aura of something that's intended to be passed down between generations even with heavy use.

Sonically, we hear an immense scale of sound and a breathtaking combination of muscle and authority that allows a song's dramatic nature to shine through. The Model 60 is almost brutal in the way it renders Beethoven's Fifth Symphony ’s savage dynamic swings, yet at no point does it sound anything less than in total control of the situation. It digs up every last bit of information from the record groove, doing a convincing job of transporting us in time and space to the point the music was recorded. While it does err more on the insightful, analytical side (and will show up any shortcomings in a pressing or recording), the 60 still has plenty of verve to keep us entertained and listening.

Turntable: Rega Naia/Aphelion 2

8. Rega Naia/Aphelion 2

The Naiad was an R&D exercise for Rega engineers to create a no-expense-spared turntable using the brand's long-held core beliefs of low mass and high rigidity, but pushed to the highest limits. Such was the demand for that conceptual model, that only 50 hand-made units were made – each for £30,000.

The Naia, then is the production-ready, 'mass-market' version of the Naiad. It has the skeletal plinth frame seen in the Planar 10 model (above), but there are new technologies throughout. First is that skeletal plinth, which now uses graphene-infused carbon fibre to sandwich the foam core. Then there's the delicate and shaped ceramic platter, which concentrated most of its mass around the perimeter to help the flywheel effect and improve speed stability. A new titanium tonearm offers a lighter and stiffer design, but it's the precision and low friction movement of the titanium main bearings that impress the most. A triple belt design, outboard power supply and the fitted Aphelion 2 MC cartridge complete the set. Altogether, with the cartridge, the Naia costs £12,499 / $16,995 / AU$24,999.

And it is a magnificent achievement. It's an incredibly insightful and natural-sounding deck. The Naia sounds clean and crisp, delivering class-leading levels of information without ever edging into sterility. It delivers agility and articulation in spaces, while also offering plenty of scale and authority when the music demands it. Some might want a bit more in the way of rhythmic drive; don’t get us wrong, this package is certainly surefooted and confident when delivering rhythm tracks, but compared to a rival like the Vertere Acoustics MG-1 MkII/Mystic (above) it does sound a bit polite in comparison.

However, this Rega is the result of truly ambitious single-minded engineering and a must-listen for anyone interested in knowing just how good vinyl can sound.

How to choose the best high-end turntable for you

First things first: if you're already considering a high-end turntable and looking at this page, then you know your budget already stretches anywhere from four figures to a hefty five figures. So while it may be high, the budget still matters as the turntable should match – or dictate – the rest of your hi-fi system.

There are a few key things to look for when buying a high-end turntable. Generally speaking, the higher the price, the higher quality of the materials used. And when it comes to performance , you can expect a sense of realism, detail and instrumental authenticity that more affordable models just can't match.

Many models at this level might not come with a tonearm or a cartridge , which means you'll have to factor in the added (and possibly quite significant) costs for these essential additionals. We've noted the cartridge and tonearm that came included in each turntable package that we reviewed, but there are other options the manufacturer might recommend. Some manufacturers like Rega will recommend their own tonearm and cartridge pairings for the high-end Naia, but many other manufacturers don't make their own cartridges, for instance, so they will recommend other reputable brands. Don't forget to head over to our list of the best cartridges for some alternative inspiration, though, not to mention finding the perfect match when it comes to phono stages .

You might notice that pricing is complex when you start looking into buying a high-end turntable. Products as esoteric as these are quite often only available through a select few outlets and dealers that specialise in high-end hi-fi. In this case, we would always highly recommend visiting a dealer , who will be well-versed in recommending the accessories (tonearm, cartridge, phono stage) for each turntable you choose. We would always recommend demoing a deck at these prices too, and again the dealer will be able to demo the different combinations of cartridge and tonearm to help you find the sound you like. It's quite a big purchase, after all. Some dealers might even let you take the turntable home for a short trial (they will likely take a deposit in this case), but you won't know if you don't ask.

Once you've made a decision and you've bought your new turntable, you'll want to know how to set up your turntable perfectly to get the ultimate performance from your vinyl set up. Again, for high-end turntables of this calibre, you'll want the expert dealer to set the turntable up for you. Most dealers do this for an additional fee (or this might come as part of the package, depending on the brand) – but this final step is worth getting the experienced care and time your new turntable deserves to ensure it's all set up correctly.

How we test high-end record players

What Hi-Fi? has been reviewing turntables for nearly 50 years, ever since our first magazine issue was published in 1976. Our editorial team has over 100 years of collective experience in reviewing, testing and writing about consumer electronics, from speakers to headphones to TVs, and that includes plenty of high-end record players.

We test high-end turntables the same way we test all turntables: in our dedicated state-of-the-art testing facilities in London and Reading, where the rooms are acoustically treated and we have a tried-and-tested reference hi-fi system as well as a stockroom full of Award-winning products and five-star rivals for every price band and product category. We ensure we set up each turntable correctly according to each manufacturer's instructions, with the tonearm and cartridge provided (or we use a recommended, price-compatible cartridge where applicable). We make sure we place each deck on a level surface and plug it into price-appropriate electronics and speakers (usually our reference system) and we spend as much time as needed with each turntable, to make sure we listen to its qualities in full, play various records and genres, and use different amps and speakers to make sure we're getting the best out of them and are able to deliver complete advice to our readers.

All new high-end turntables are tested in comparison with rival turntables at the same price where possible, and fitted with either the supplied cartridge or a premium price equivalent.

We always review as a team, too. All our reviewers are conducted by our in-house review team, and each turntable is listened to by more than one reviewer. All final verdicts are decided upon as a team as well, to eliminate any personal subjectivity and ensure we remain thorough and consistent in our testing and judgements. There is never any input from manufacturers, PRs or commercial teams on any of our reviews, with What Hi-Fi? delivering independent, honest and unbiased reviews for nearly five decades. So if you decide to take the plunge and buy one of the recommended turntables on this page, you can rest assured you're getting a  What Hi-Fi?- approved product.

The 17 Best Luxury Makeup Brands of 2024 That Are Worth the Splurge

InStyle Editors recommend the high-end makeup that truly performs.

Why Shop With Us

InStyle / Kristin Kempa

We don’t discriminate when it comes to shopping for makeup — so long as the formula performs, we’re happy to wear it, whether it’s a budget-friendly pick or something from a prestige brand. But when we’re feeling a little fancy, there’s nothing like breaking out a product from a luxury makeup brand to really lean into that vibe.

Luxury makeup products are made with premium ingredients, offer advanced benefits, and come in elegant packaging. Quite often, luxury makeup brands come from fashion houses like Chanel, Tom Ford, and Hermès. That’s not always the case, though — some luxury makeup brands are founded by celebrities or celebrity makeup artists, others are connected to high-end skincare brands , and some still are totally independent.

Not all luxury makeup brands are created equally, though. To help you save time (and prevent buyer's remorse) we’ve spent weeks researching and testing formulas to find the créme de la créme. Keep reading for 17 luxury makeup brands that are worthy of the investment; plus, find some of our favorite products from each.

Armani Beauty

Armani Beauty is known for its celebrity fans, including Sydney Sweeney (who happens to be the latest face of My Way Parfum ) and Tessa Thompson . And though we love so many of the brand’s products, the Luminous Silk Foundation is a cut above the rest. Sweeney and Maude Apatow are just two of the celebrities who swear by Luminous Silk Foundation , even when they’re managing breakouts.

The elegant formulas aren’t the only aspects of the brand that deserve hype, however. Giorgio Armani himself is passionate about making products that are beautiful and sustainable. The brand is focused on achieving carbon neutrality by 25 percent, and it’s well on its way with packaging that is recyclable (and in some cases refillable).

Bestsellers: Luminous Silk Foundation , Lip Maestro Velvet Liquid Lipstick , Lip Power Longwear Satin Lipstick | Cruelty-Free: No

Editors, makeup artists, celebrities — you’d be hard-pressed to find someone in this category who hasn’t tried (and loved) YSL’s iconic Touch Éclat All-Over Brightening Pen . Kaia Gerber , Zoë Kravitz , and even Barbie Ferreira are among the brand’s fans. Beyond the cult-favorite concealer, YSL Beauty leads in innovations. For example: The Rouge Sur Mesure Custom Lip Color Creator allows you to create thousands of lip shades at the tap of a button, so you can always have a personalized lip color at your fingertips.

While a lot of designer brands don’t offer perks when shopping on their sites, YSL does. You can sign up for auto-replenishment, so you’ll get 10% off every order and free shipping on it, plus there’s a beauty rewards club you can join for exclusive access to new products and events. If you’re into engraving, the brand offers that too, including on lipsticks, mascaras, perfume — and yes, Touche Éclat.

Bestsellers: Touche Éclat All-Over Brightening Pen , Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick Balm , Lash Clash Extreme Volume Mascara | Cruelty-Free: No

Dior Beauty

Though Dior Addict Lip Maximizer may be stealing the spotlight right now, this designer makeup brand has been churning out best selling products since it first launched — with lipsticks, no less — in 1953. One of our longtime faves is Diorshow Mascara , a go-to of stars like Anya Taylor-Joy and Kylie Jenner , as well as the gorgeous range of fragranced hand soaps (they look very chic on the edge of a sink).

We’re particularly fans of the online experience of shopping this brand — no matter what you buy, shipping is free, and you get to choose a few samples to enjoy. Plus, your order always comes gift wrapped (a complimentary service), so you feel very pampered when it arrives.

Bestsellers: Diorshow Mascara , Dior Addict Lip Glow , Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil | Cruelty-Free: No

Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury launched back in 2013 with a decent range of products and has since grown to a comprehensive collection that offers everything you could ever need, including skincare. Every product is infused with quality ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, and the brand’s signature rose gold packaging begs to be displayed. If you’re new to the brand, Hollywood Contour Duo , Hollywood Flawless Filter , and Pillow Talk Lipstick are all great picks to start with — and once you fall in love, you’ll want to sign up for product subscriptions, which will get you 15 percent off future orders.

Bestsellers: Hollywood Contour Duo , Hollywood Flawless Filter , Pillow Talk Lipstick | Cruelty-Free: Yes

Pat McGrath Labs

If you’re a Swiftie, you know Taylor almost never reveals what makeup products she uses . . . that is, until recently, when we learned Taylor Swift wears Pat McGrath Labs . Celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath debuted her namesake brand on social media back in 2015 with just one product (Gold 001, a luscious gold pigment that is no longer available). After that, every item rolled out one at a time — with each selling out in mere hours — until the full collection launched months later. Pro makeup artists and at-home amateurs swear by the luxe line, and we’re partial to the lipsticks , which are super vibrant and housed in a fabulous case complete with a gilded pair of lips.

Bestsellers: MatteTrance Lipstick , SkinFetish Sublime Perfection Foundation , Mothership V Bronze Seduction Palette | Cruelty-Free: No

Clé de Peau Beauté

This Japanese brand’s name is French for “the key to skin’s beauty,” and if you’ve tried the products before, you know they deliver. The entire collection’s formulas are created with skincare technology to help enhance your complexion with every wear.

Few concealers are as legendary as Concealer SPF 27 , which is worn by Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman . Despite the full-coverage formula and stick format, it’s creamy, featherlight, and won’t settle into fine lines and pores — plus it contains SPF protection. We’ve also lauded the brand’s Radiant Fluid Foundation , which is infused with hyaluronic acid and leaves skin looking dewy and flawless all day, even on oily and acne-prone skin.

Bestsellers: Concealer SPF 27 , Radiant Fluid Foundation Matte SPF 20 , Lip Glorifier | Cruelty-Free: No

Chanel Makeup

There’s not a single luxury list out there that would exclude Chanel — whether we're talking about top French clothing brands or makeup. Not only is it one of the original designer makeup brands (it’s been around since the 1920s), it’s also one of the best. We never cease to be blown away by Chanel’s limited-edition collections, which often feature pressed powders that are debossed with elegant details, such as the fashion house’s signature tweed or tiny bottles of Chanel No° 5. And though the brand is basically 100 years old, it’s not remotely dated — in fact, products go viral frequently. Hailey Bieber recently revealed that she’s a fan of the Ultra Le Teint Foundation ; and our review of Chanel’s newest undereye concealer , Sublimage Le Correcteur Yeux , caused it to sell out multiple times.

Bestsellers: Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour , Sublimage Le Correcteur Yeux , Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour | Cruelty-Free: No

Victoria Beckham Beauty

Not all celebrity makeup brands are worth the hype, but Victoria Beckham has earned it with her carefully curated collection of beauty products. Ever since she launched her line in 2019, she’s been pumping out hit after hit. All the products are designed to be fuss-free yet chic (very Posh) and feel incredibly luxe on the skin. If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, check out the Bitten Lip Tint : A stain that truly lasts without making you look dehydrated like most formulas do, and the Satin Kajal Liners , which are ultra pigmented and glide on like a dream.

Bestsellers: Bitten Lip Tint , Lid Lustre , Satin Kajal Liner | Cruelty-Free: Yes

Gucci Beauty

Gucci Beauty has existed in a few iterations over the years, but the relaunch in 2019 has cemented the makeup brand as a mainstay. The launch campaign made headlines for promoting Gucci lipstick on “imperfect” smiles, a form of beauty inclusivity we don’t often see. Since then, we’ve seen the brand’s formulas adorn the faces of countless celebs — including Salma Hayek , whose daughter absconded with the star’s favorite Rouge à Lèvres Satin Lipstick .

Bestsellers: Rouge à Lèvres Mat , Blush de Beauté , Mascara L’Obscur | Cruelty-Free: No

Tom Ford Beauty

Though he’d gotten his feet wet in the world of makeup with a capsule collection under the Estée Lauder label in 2005, it wasn’t until 2011 that Tom Ford launched his eponymous cosmetics collection. Since then, the luxe formulas — in equally opulent packaging — have been favorites of beauty editors and more makeup lovers around the world. Though his fragrances may get all the hype ( Fucking Fabulous , anyone?), his makeup is definitely worthy of accolades. We’re partial to one of the original products from the line, Lip Colour , which comes in a tube so fancy that you want to pull it out and apply it in front of anyone and everyone.

Bestsellers: Lip Colour , Shade and Illuminate Soft Radiance Foundation SPF 50 , Shade and Illuminate Contour Duo | Cruelty-Free: No

Guerlain is one of the oldest brands on this list, launching all the way back in 1840 (!). The company is also credited with inventing bronzer back in the ‘80s, and the formula still holds up. There is much to enjoy across the collection, including the super-comfy KissKiss Bee Glow Honey Tint Lip Balm , which comes in a luxurious gold tube, and the completely customizable Rouge G Lipstick . In addition to engraving it, you can pick your case, which is available in 19 different designs (including tweed and rhinestone options).

Bestsellers: The Sunkissed Natural Healthy Glow Powder , KissKiss Bee Glow Honey Tint Balm , Rouge G Customizable Jewel Lipstick | Cruelty-Free: No

Sisley-Paris

You might be more familiar with Sisley through its Jennifer Aniston-approved hair products or the legendary Black Rose Cream Mask , but don’t sleep on the makeup collection. All of the formulas are created with plant-based skincare ingredients — including radiance-boosting fruit extracts and hydrating aquatic mint extract — plus, have gorgeous textures and finishes that basically melt into skin. One of our favorites is the Phyto-Rouge Shine , a lipstick with the feel of a balm and the shine of a gloss. Bonus: The products are quite easy to use, including eyeshadows in chubby crayons and sponge-tipped concealers, so you can just dab, blend with a fingertip, and go.

Bestsellers: Phyto-Teint Nude , Phyto-Rouge Shine , Phyto-Eye Twist | Cruelty-Free: No

Valentino Beauty

Valentino Beauty

Though Valentino is a relative newcomer to the makeup game, it’s caught the eye of many thanks to its stunning — and engravable and refillable — packaging. Permanent products in the lineup have garnered acclaim, including the Rosso Valentino Refillable Lipstick that comes in 53 shades, the long-lasting Very Valentino 24 Hour Wear Liquid Foundation , and the double ended Twin Liner Eyeliner . We’re also partial to some of the brand’s limited-edition launches, which are quite worthy of display, such as a studded lipstick bullet inspired by Valentino’s iconic Rockstud collection.

Bestsellers: Very Valentino 24 Hour Wear Liquid Foundation , Rosso Valentino Lipstick | Cruelty-Free: No

Westman Atelier

 Baby Cheeks Blush Stick

Celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman’s collection launched in 2018 and has been a favorite of the classy-clean beauty set ever since. While Gwyneth Paltrow is probably one of the brand’s most well-known fans, Kate Hudson and Martha Stewart are also hooked on the good-for-you formulas (especially the Face Trace Contour Stick ). You won’t just love the ingredients in these products (vitamin C, jojoba oil, and more), though. The silky cream and buttery powder textures are to die for, as are the ultra-luxe, weighty components.

Bestsellers: Vital Skin Foundation Stick , Baby Cheeks Blush Stick , Squeaky Clean Liquid Lip Balm | Cruelty-Free: Yes

Hermes Beauty

For many, the iconic orange box of Hermès is the pinnacle of luxury. While not everyone will be able to afford a Birkin from the brand, the beauty formulas — many of which come in that aforementioned box! — are more accessible. All of the product packaging looks like it could be modern art, especially the nail polishes and the lipsticks’ refillable, color-blocked tubes.

The lipsticks themselves are available in satin, matte, and sheer finishes, all of which pop. (You can also buy leather cases in the brand’s signature hues.) If you’re not prepared to splurge, check out the Plein Air Blotting Papers or nail files — their orange packaging will definitely impress when pulled from your purse.

Bestsellers: Rouge Hermès Matte Lipstick , Plein Air Complexion Balm , Le Mains Hermès Nail Enamel | Cruelty-Free: No

Christian Louboutin Beauty

Christian Louboutin

This edited collection of beauty products is centered around Louboutin’s most recognizable characteristic — the shoes’ vibrant red soles. The lipsticks are packaged in cases inspired by a blend of Art Deco style and Middle Eastern antiquities, and are all refillable. You can even buy charms for the tube! We’re especially partial to the nail polishes , the caps of which are inspired by the brand’s highest stiletto heel.

Bestsellers: Rouge Louboutin Silky Satin Lipstick , Rouge Louboutin Lalaque Le Vernis Nail Colour | Cruelty-Free: Unclear

La Prairie Makeup

Though the super-luxe skincare brand only offers a couple of makeup formulas, we’d be remiss not to include La Prairie. The Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation , infused with the company’s signature caviar extract to firm and lift, is one of just a handful of expensive foundations we love . There aren’t many products we’ve seen packaged like it, either — the bottle comes with a perfectly coordinating concealer housed in the lid, and it’s all placed on its own little stand, complete with a petite application brush. Essentially, this foundation is fit for royalty.

Bestsellers: Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation SPF 15 , Skin Caviar Complexion Perfect Concealer | Cruelty-Free: Yes

The 9 best luxury cruise lines for elegance and exclusivity

Fran Golden

Like fine European hotels or the fanciest boutique properties, the ships of the best luxury cruise lines are designed to appeal to people who seek — and can afford — an elegant style of travel.

Champagne flows. You can snack on caviar. Exquisite cuisine is prepared a la minute and accompanied by pours of fine wines. Onboard lounges are wonderfully intimate, with no mass-market anything. When you rest your head, it's on a luxury mattress topped with the finest linens.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

The byword is exclusivity. Perks included in the cruise fare may include beverages, Wi-Fi, fresh flowers, extraordinary pampering and, in some cases, butler service.

The price to get on board could be $1,000 per person, per day. For top suites, it could be much, much more.

Here are our picks for the top nine luxury cruise lines currently operating.

Atlas Ocean Voyages

what is the high end

Catering to adventurous luxury cruise travelers with money to spend, the new cruise line Atlas Ocean Voyages , which debuted in the summer of 2021, offers upscale experiences on small ships that carry just 196 passengers.

World Navigator, World Traveller and World Voyager, the first three of five planned vessels in the fleet, carry their own landing craft, Jet Skis, kayaks and paddleboards, all of which can be used by passengers wishing for some adventure while exploring the world on itineraries that include the Mediterranean, Portugal and the British Isles, as well as more remote locales like the Arctic and Antarctica.

Although the onboard dress code is casual, the ships are anything but, featuring elegant, retro-chic decor and marble floors.

In addition to including Wi-Fi, crew gratuities, alcohol and some shore excursions in its fares, Atlas provides all passengers with emergency medical evacuation insurance to handle unexpected illness or injury in the remote locations its ships sail.

Overall, Atlas has found a way to seamlessly meld swank and leisure, making it one of our favorite luxury cruise lines.

Silversea Cruises

what is the high end

Silversea , with a dozen 100- to 728-passenger ships, has some of the most diverse geographic itineraries of any line, bringing guests to destinations around the world, including such remote places as the Arctic and Antarctica.

Now owned by Royal Caribbean Group (the same company that owns Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises ), the luxury cruise line delivers stylish, contemporary luxury — more streamlined than opulent — complemented by pleasantly extreme pampering.

Every Silversea ship passenger stays in a suite with a butler delivering superb service — even on the 100-passenger Silver Origin in the remote Galapagos, where your butler might take extraordinary care to get a spot off your hiking boots. Suite niceties include Bulgari bath products and marble bathrooms with both tubs and showers.

Silversea ships offer a wide choice of dining venues (some with a fee) designed to satisfy many tastes, whether you prefer sushi, foie gras or a great, thin-crust pizza.

Drinks are on the house, including a long list of fine wine pours. S.A.L.T., a new dining and culinary education concept, brings local tastes on board together with experts who share insight into each dish and beverage. The program also features culinary-focused excursions ashore.

Silversea's expedition ships are equipped for polar locales. On sailings in those regions, each passenger receives a free jacket to keep them warm and cozy.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

what is the high end

Another of our top luxury cruise lines, Regent Seven Seas Cruises is proudly opulent. Floating palaces are its calling card, along with the most inclusive fares of all the luxury lines. Business-class airfare, pre-cruise luxury hotel stays and shore excursions in every port are on the long list of perks.

The goal is knock-you-off-your-feet luxury. If you don't get that point at first, look down at the many yards of Carrara marble under your feet, then gaze up at the Czech crystal chandeliers. Or spot the Picassos and Chagalls among your ship's stunning, mostly Latin-focused art collections.

The six 490- to 750-passenger ships in the Regent fleet get fancier as they get larger. On the three newest, Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Grandeur everyone stays in a roomy suite with an oversized balcony and marble bathroom.

The top Regent Suites on these new ships are mansions at sea and come with solariums, private spas with saunas and steam rooms and Steinway pianos in their living rooms. They also have handmade beds that cost up to $200,000 apiece.

Lavishly decked-out restaurants, with cushy bars nearby, include Prime 7, a fan favorite for its classic steakhouse menu, including jumbo lump crab cakes, U.S.D.A. prime-aged beef and Alaskan king crab legs.

what is the high end

Long considered one of the great luxury lines, if not the greatest, Crystal just resumed operations in 2023 after shutting down during the COVID-19 pandemic. And as we wrote about recently, it's as good as ever .

In the wake of its comeback, Crystal is operating just the two biggest ocean ships from its past: the 606-passenger Crystal Symphony and 740-passenger Crystal Serenity (though it already has plans for an expansion ). Both of the vessels, which globetrot around the world, are all-inclusive and on the glitzy side — perfect for a crowd looking for a throwback. Passengers make appearances walking down grand staircases dressed to the nines, meet for afternoon tea and dance the night away.

Everything operates in the upper-tier way, from the spa and expansive fitness offerings to the restaurants — which include a Nobu eatery.

Those booked in penthouses and higher-category suites receive service from a tuxedo-clad butler who will do everything from unpacking your luggage to helping you set up a private cocktail party. A particular perk is having the butler bring Nobu sushi on a silver tray.

what is the high end

Owned by Carnival Corporation, Seabourn 's top-of-the-line, 264- to 600-passenger ships deliver comfortable, modern luxury that can be as fancy or casual as you like.

If you want to show off your heirloom jewels, go ahead, but on most nights, a jacket is optional in the ship's restaurants. If you prefer not to dress up for formal night, you can still eat well at casual alternatives.

High service is a trademark of this luxury cruise line. Your suite steward will draw you a bath scented with your choice of bath oil. For a snack, order the complimentary caviar.

Dining is over the top at the restaurants, such as the retro-chic steakhouses with menus created by famed chef Thomas Keller (of French Laundry fame). When you tire of prime beef, order lobster thermidor or sink into the delicious comfort of Keller's roast chicken. All dining is included in your fare.

Throughout the ship, complimentary spirits, fine wines and house Champagne flow freely. This leads to easy socializing in the bars and lounges on board.

The line's two newest ships, the 264-passenger Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit, are built with a tough "polar class" design to operate in the ice-filled waters of the Arctic and Antarctica. They're equipped with state-of-the-art submarines for undersea views.

A 26-person expedition team runs the two dozen Zodiacs that get you up close to glaciers and icebergs.

Paul Gauguin Cruises

what is the high end

Looking to sail through romantic French Polynesia in complete luxury? Look to South Pacific-based Paul Gauguin for an all-inclusive, high-end home base.

The ship is immersed in all things Polynesian, with a troupe of local performers on board to entertain guests with local song, dance and craft lessons.

Couples can embrace the romance of the region by participating in a Polynesian blessing ceremony. Paul Gauguin gives its guests special access to a secluded beach on Bora Bora and a private island off the coast of Taha'a, where you can indulge in water sports, a gourmet barbecue and bar service.

To make the most of the aquamarine waters, complimentary water sports, such as paddleboarding and kayaking, are available straight from the ship's marina and every guest receives snorkel gear for use during the cruise, free of charge.

On board, guests enjoy five-star French and Polynesian cuisine, with all beverages complimentary throughout the ship and in your in-room minifridge.

With 209 crew members on hand to serve 330 passengers, service is top-notch and full of Polynesian hospitality, but all gratuities are already included in your fare.

Not all cabins are suites, but the top suites on the ship come with butler service. Also, should you dare to consider the outside world, you can connect with friends and family back home with complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the ship.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours

what is the high end

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours puts the elegance into adventure with its two 228-passenger expedition yachts, Scenic Eclipse and Scenic Eclipse II.

Sure, its ships have reinforced hulls capable of breaking through ice, but they also feature chic bars serving 130 different kinds of whiskey (all included in your fare) and high-end onboard spas (treatments cost extra, alas).

For small ships, Scenic's yachts still manage to offer five gourmet dining venues, plus additional private dining options (such as a chef's table or teppanyaki grill), room service and culinary masterclasses in a show kitchen.

Sample candied foie gras, daily risottos or sushi made with fish flown from Japan, all while sailing through remote waters. Wash it down with whatever you like because all but the most premium beverages are included.

After a long day of Zodiac, submersible or helicopter rides (yes, all these high-tech exploration toys are on board), you can retreat to your well-appointed suite, with distinct sleeping and living areas, plus a balcony.

Thoughtful touches include Illy coffee machines, Dyson hair dryers, remote-control adjustable beds, plentiful outlets and USB ports, and umbrellas and binoculars for use on your vacation. Did we mention you also have access to a butler for all your onboard needs?

Scenic's all-inclusive fares include dining and drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities, airport transfers and shore excursions led by the line's knowledgeable expedition leaders.

Oceania Cruises

Sometimes luxury means more space to spread out and multiple onboard options for a truly outstanding meal.

That's the approach upscale cruise line Oceania Cruises takes with its fleet of seven 648- to 1,238-passenger ships (the last of which, Oceania Vista , just debuted in May 2023 and is its most elegant yet).

Foodies will drool over menus overseen by Master Chef Jacques Pepin in all-included venues specializing in French, Italian, Asian and steakhouse cuisine.

Cruisers truly passionate about food and wine will want to splurge on wine-paired dinners at La Reserve by Wine Spectator or enjoy a gourmet, multi-course menu with an intimate group at Privee.

Get hands-on cooking experience with a class in The Culinary Center or explore the food culture ashore with a Culinary Discovery Tour.

Oceania also embraces wellness with its Aquamar Spa and Vitality Center. Treat yourself to a decadent spa treatment or wellness-themed shore excursion, or take care of your body with complimentary fitness classes and plant-based menus at onboard restaurants.

Oceania's fares are not as inclusive as some of the small-ship lines mentioned above, but guests can choose a higher-priced fare that is more inclusive with the line's "simply MORE" promotion. These fares include free airfare and airport transfers, complimentary Wi-Fi and a choice of a select number of free excursions, as well as free specialty dining reservations, Champagne and wine.

what is the high end

Viking does not like to call itself a luxury cruise line, but we'd definitely put it in that category for the inclusive fares, fine dining and smart design of its ocean-going ships.

Its 10 traditional cruise ships are nearly identical, each carrying 930 guests, while two expedition vessels carry 378 guests and combine elegant design with the latest technology in polar exploration.

Viking's fares are inclusive but not all-inclusive, and its ships sport clean Scandinavian design rather than opulent decor. Necessities such as Wi-Fi and self-serve laundry are complimentary, as are all nonalcoholic beverages and beer and wine with lunch and dinner.

Guests can enjoy dining in multiple onboard venues, plus room service, for no extra cost. Don't miss the Italian Manfredi's or a gorgeous afternoon tea spread in the glass-enclosed Wintergarden.

Cabins may not have an overtly opulent feel, but they have all the right touches, including balconies in every room, quiet-closing drawers, heated bathroom floors and plentiful USB ports and outlets.

The destination-focused cruise line adds as many days in port as it can to each itinerary and offers a free shore excursion in every port.

Viking ships have a large presence in Europe, sailing the Mediterranean and in northern Europe, but also explore the world from Alaska and the Caribbean to Asia and Australia.

Its expedition ships, Viking Polaris and Viking Octantis, explore Antarctica, as well as the Great Lakes and Canada.

The ships boast several expedition cruising firsts, including a boarding area for excursion craft that's inside the ship (rather than docked outside it) and cabins with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that slide open to let in the fresh air.

Like the ocean ships, they feature Scandinavian design, a glass-walled Explorers' Lounge and signature Viking restaurants Manfredi's and Mamsen's (offering Norwegian specialties).

These luxury cruise lines offer stunning suites, fine dining, and exceptional itineraries.

what is the high end

Cruising is back — and you might even say it's better than ever. "Vacations at sea are suddenly one of the biggest things in travel," Travel + Leisure cruise expert Paul Brady reported recently, as summer air travel is looking progressively messier but the cruise industry continues to stabilize post-pandemic. For those looking to plan a cruise, whether it's a last-minute trip for the summer or a 2024 around-the-world cruise, we've narrowed down the best luxury cruise lines to ferry you to some of the world's most mesmerizing destinations in comfort. Here, our favorite luxury cruise lines in the world.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

When this luxury cruise line says it's all-inclusive, it's not overstating. Everything from shore excursions, Wi-Fi, and laundry to gratuities, top-shelf liquor, and business-class international flights are included with Regent Seven Seas Cruises ' fares. While each luxurious suite features ocean views, nothing beats the view from the epic 4,000-square-foot, two-bedroom Regent Suite, which has two wraparound balconies, three walk-in closets, two Picasso lithographs, and a grand piano.

For the best in-suite views, book a room at the back of the ship, Kelly Cochrane, executive chef of Regent Seven Seas Cruises tells T+L.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania Cruises has just seven ships, but the debut of the brand-new Oceania Vista catapults this cruise line into the luxury division. The cruise line's relatively new Go Local shore excursions for small groups bring travelers to under-the-radar destinations, T+L contributing editor and long-time cruiser Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon reported recently. Her 2022 cruise on Riviera included 70 excursions "from canoeing Croatia’s Cetina River to cooking classes in Athens."

If you've ever dreamed of having your own butler, Silversea is the luxury cruise line for you. In fact, Silversea's butlers take white-glove service to a whole new level — they'll handle your laundry with more care than you do, scour port towns to find your favorite tastes of home, and even help you pack and unpack your suitcase. Further, Silversea's new culinary program, nicknamed S.A.L.T. (for Sea and Land Taste), brings the taste of destinations on board through cooking classes. Of course, there's no need to cook for yourself aboard a Silversea ship, as each one features several restaurants with multi-course menus to whet your appetite every night.

Viking Cruises

Viking Cruises is a river and ocean cruise line that recently added expedition sailings and the Great Lakes trips to its repertoire. "T+L readers rave about the consistency of Viking's vessels and their Scandinavian design," cruise expert Fran Golden reported when Viking once again topped T+L's World's Best Awards last year. Viking came in at No. 1 in T+L's best mid-size ship category and river cruise category. Golden said the WBA Hall of Fame honoree's 50 river "longships" are "light-filled floating boutique hotels."

Laureen Robert / Courtesy of Ponant

French luxury cruise line Ponant aims to make passengers feel as if they're traveling on their own private yachts. Guests enjoy Ladurée macarons, Veuve Clicquot Champagne, and luxurious Hermès bath products on board. Each of the company's ships features an onboard spa with massage cabins and either a Turkish bath or sauna. Ponant's luxurious small ships sail to remote destinations like Antarctica, incorporating once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as eclipse spotting from the edge of the earth. The company also partners with Smithsonian and Disney on certain sailings.

Seabourn cruises to all seven continents, and most recently launched Seabourn Venture , "marking the first time the Carnival Corporation–owned luxury cruise line will offer adventurous sailings on an expedition ship built for extreme environments," Brady reported. (The sibling ship to Venture , Seabourn Pursuit arrives later this year.) The World's Best Award-winning cruise line has all-suite ships and "is known for its onboard service and over-the-top food including complimentary caviar and Thomas Keller steakhouses on ships such as the  Seabourn Ovation, " Brady said.

Windstar Cruises

Windstar Cruises ' luxury small ships call on 150 ports throughout Europe, Central America, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific, and there's no way you'll go hungry on the journey. Exquisite onboard menus have been designed by acclaimed chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants. (You'll have to pay extra for alcohol, but all meals and a Windstar signature onboard barbecue — a feast of whole suckling pig, shrimp brochette, and more — are included.) The cruise line is not only a T+L World's Best Awards Hall of Fame honoree, it has a "long-standing partnership with the James Beard Foundation ," Brady reported, and regularly brings chefs on board for culinary-focused sailings. Yes, chef.

Courtesy of Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours

Whether it's a river or an ocean you want to cruise, Scenic can take you there in style. The luxury cruise line operates river cruises in Europe and Asia, while ocean cruises on Scenic Eclipse (and the forthcoming Scenic Eclipse II ) can take guests to Antarctica, the Arctic, Australia, South America, and Greenland, among other coveted destinations. On board, you'll find fine dining, expansive spas and fitness facilities, and butler service.

Cunard Line

Jonathan Atkin / Courtesy of Cunard Line

This British luxury cruise line is known for its transatlantic service, which also transports pets between its headquarters in Southampton, England, and New York City. Cunard operates three ships with a fourth in the works, though only the Queen Mary 2 sails the transatlantic route. It's a cruise line that takes formality seriously; white-gloved waiters serve afternoon tea each day at 3:30 p.m. State rooms include 24-hour room service and evening turndown service with chocolates. Don't forget your tux, the gala nights are black tie.

Paul Gauguin Cruises

Roger Paperno / Courtesy of Paul Gauguin Cruises

Paul Gauguin Cruises operates just one ship, but it is exquisite, hosting 330 guests and sailing only in the South Pacific to destinations like Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga, and the Cook Islands. The ship is small enough to access private ports at remote beaches and take travelers well off the beaten path. Named the best small-ship ocean cruise line in T+L's 2022 World's Best Awards, Golden said the line is known for Tahitian-inspired massage techniques in the onboard spa and noted that cruisers particularly love the wonderful staff.

Celebrity Cruises

Steve Dunlop / Courtesy of Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises ' new Edge Series ships are taking things up a notch. Celebrity's signature Iconic Suites on board the Celebrity Edge and Apex offer panoramic views from above the ship's bridge; each suite boasts more than 2,500 square feet of space, including expansive 690-square-foot terraces, and comes with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Celebrity Beyond , which debuted in 2022, accommodates 3,260 guests has 32 bars and restaurants, like Le Voyage by chef Daniel Boulud, and two-story villas on board. Beyond 's sibling ship, Ascent , will be delivered later this year.

Skylar Astin as Todd Wright and Marcia Gay Harden as Margaret Wright

SPOILER ALERT! This story contains details about the series finale of So Help Me Todd on CBS.

For the small but dedicated fanbase of the drama that stars Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin , it wasn’t a surprise that the two-year-old crime dramedy was ending for good on May 16.

Creator Scott Prendergast understands how painful that would be for fans and would like to offer some relief. Here, he explains why they ended on a cliffhanger and what would have happened if the series had returned for a third season.

DEADLINE: Let’s start with the cliffhanger. Why?

SCOTT PRENDERGAST : When we pitched out the season at the beginning of Season 2, we told all of the executives what we were going to do. They all said, ‘of course. That’s great.’ Even they thought at the time, ‘well, of course you’ll be back. Do a cliffhanger!’ We wanted to do sort of an Empire Strikes Back-y end with a dangerous note. By the time we knew that we were canceled, it was too late. It’d been a month since we shot that episode. We found out on April 19. We wrapped production at the end of March.

DEADLINE: When CBS told you about the cancelation, did you have a brief conversation about what you could do for fans?

PRENDERGAST: The conversations were both very short. We knew it was coming. There had been little signs, little things that had happened, little administrative things. We were like, ‘oh, maybe this isn’t going to go our way.’ We did say, ‘can we try and find another home? Can we keep the sets up for a little bit? Can we look around, try and sell the show to somebody else?’ And they said, of course. So we didn’t talk specifically about wrapping the story for fans, but we were looking for another home.

DEADLINE: Where does that stand?

DEADLINE: What do you think led to the cancellation?

PRENDERGAST : I think it was a combination of factors. One, the strike shortened our season, and then it was interrupted with March Madness. Then we heard the network might be for sale. That part of the bottom line is probably more important. So Help Me Todd was among their lower-rated shows. So I think a lot of those factors went into it. But I think the number one thing that worked against us was CBS has too many hour-long shows that are working too well. The real estate is not there. CBS is such a wonderful place to work and they could not have been more supportive. They were so sad about this decision, and a number of times the executives reached out to me to be like, ‘this is heartbreaking. We’re so sorry. Please come back. We can’t wait to work with you again.’

DEADLINE: So do you want to hold off explaining how you would’ve wrapped the story?

PRENDERGAST: I went to six different friends who are showrunners, and I was like, ‘okay, I’m getting asked a lot. How’s the show going to end? What do I do?’ And they’re like, just tell people. The feet that arrive that belong to Merritt Folding, those are my feet. I was there that day and I played the stand-in. I was the voice of Merritt Folding, which is ironic when you look back and you think, my arrival ended the show. We were going to try and cast Joe Pantoliano, who’s a friend of Marcia’s. He was going to be the big bad for season three, and Margaret was going to get in a lot of trouble, get arrested, and she would have to go to trial for all these crimes that she didn’t commit. And Todd would have to be working behind the scenes in the law firm to help clear her name. The whole family would have had to band together. And Susan [Inga Schlingmann] would come back and help her and they would all band together and figure it out.

DEADLINE : What was the future going to be for Todd and Judy?

PRENDERGAST: Todd and Judy [Heather Morris] were going to be together for a few more seasons. Heather Morris was spectacular. We love her. She was so charming, so great, so wonderful to work with. They were going to be together for three seasons. But then my idea was that eventually she would move to Thailand, because she couldn’t be tied down, and Todd would eventually get back together with Susan.

DEADLINE: What about Todd’s future? Would he remain in that investigative role?

PRENDERGAST: He was going to keep working. He’d be working behind the scenes to help his mother, working as a detective. And eventually that empty 28th floor, he would take an office up there and he’d have his own private detective agency. Allison [Madeline Wise] was going to become a medical examiner, a forensic pathologist like Quincy Jones. We were trying to set Allison up as a spinoff where she’d eventually be a medical mystery series.

DEADLINE: Were you shocked by the reaction to the cancellation by fans?

DEADLINE: So what do you think it resonated so well with viewers? Was it that chemistry between Marcia and Skylar?

PRENDERGAST: They’re an electric pair. They worked so well together. When I pitched the show, I said it’s like Moonlighting, but it’s mother and son and it’s a different kind of love. It’s a familial love. Everyone can relate to having to deal with their parent or their child. The minute we saw them together for the first time, we knew that it was going to work. They just were a perfect pair. And they’re both from the theater and they both prepare extensively. They both cared so much. They were both so invested in the show and they were really spectacular. I think early on when we started the show, CBS execs — because their background is in procedurals — thought, well, this has to be a very strict procedural. But the more the show went on, I said people don’t care about the procedural aspect. They care about these characters and these relationships and they like it because it’s funny. I think that is what carried us.

DEADLINE: So with your show canceled, how are you feeling about the future of broadcast TV?

PRENDERGAST: I feel pretty good. I don’t know if I’m having a delayed reaction. Television series is hard work and we were working very, very hard. So it’s nice to have a little bit of a break. I’m sure I’m going to be sadder about it. We had such incredibly talented people. Allisa Swanson, our costume designer, was so spectacular. Eric Norlin, our production designer, our composers, our editors … everybody was so talented. I was working 15 hour days, seven days a week. And dealing with these people all the time was really nice. I guess now it’s like, well, onto the next opportunity. We’ll see what comes next.

First Look: Fendi Is Launching a High-end Fragrance Collection - and It's All About Its Members

MILAN - Seven scents for seven Fendi personalities.

The Roman fashion house is gearing up for the big celebrations of its centenary next year by releasing a high-end fragrance collection. The range aims to pay tribute to the company's history and key members of the Fendi extended family, from the founder to its newest generations, passing through the likes of Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi .

The olfactory project - the brand's first in more than a decade - has been developed in-house with the support of the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton fragrance division and is hitting the Fendi stores and e-commerce next month.

"It all started from a conversation I had with the people at LVMH and together we thought about the great opportunity that launching a family of fragrances would have represented ahead the centenary's celebrations in starting to retrace the history of the Fendi family in a new way," the company's chief executive officer Serge Brunschwig told WWD.

"Our goal is to surprise [customers] and make 2025 a unique year for Fendi," he continued. "That's been our motivation over the past months: to express all the extraordinary features of this brand and use the centenary to narrate who we are, what we want to say, what's our history and key codes."

Brunschwig said the fragrance collection represents a new chapter compared to what has been developed beauty-wise in the past. Former scents included the likes of L'Acquarossa and Fan di Fendi, which followed previous perfumes developed under license.

The new project differs in terms of approach, positioning and distribution, with the scents retailing at 300 euros each and available only at the brand's own retail network.

Shying away from offering sales projections and targets, Brunschwig stressed the project is more instrumental in enriching the Fendi narrative rather than at pumping its cash registers. "It is an important implementation for us, as adding this category to the stores enables us to strengthen our storytelling and have an extra dimension to deepen the bond between our sales assistants and customers," he said.

The executive also highlighted the choral nature of the project, which was two years in the making and was led by Jones, who's Fendi's artistic director of couture and womenswear; Venturini Fendi, artistic director of accessories and menswear, as well as her daughter Delfina Delettrez Fendi , artistic director of jewelry.

They worked closely with master perfumers Quentin Bisch, Fanny Bal and Anne Flipo, who have been tapped to create the seven scents by employing highly concentrated ingredients encompassing orange blossom absolute from Tunisia; bergamot from Italy's Calabria region; patchouli from Indonesia; iris from France, and vanilla from Madagascar, among others.

Each fragrance was inspired by a personality, starting from the house's matriarch Adele Casagrande Fendi, who kickstarted the business in 1925 by opening a fur and leather goods workshop in Rome with husband Edoardo Fendi. The perfume dedicated to her is aptly called "Casa Grande," referencing both her maiden name and the Italian translation of "great house." Crafted by Bisch, the scent blends myrrh, amber and leather with notes of cherry, vanilla and tonka bean absolute.

Evoking the memory of a mother's kiss, the floral scent "Dolce Bacio" is dedicated to Anna Fendi, the founder's daughter and one of the legendary Fendi sisters. "It's the scent that personifies my mother. A woman who is both very strong and very gentle, a common trait of all Fendi women," said Venturini Fendi of the scent, which mixes Damascene rose and patchouli.

The designer, who represents Fendi's third generation and is behind iconic creations such as the Baguette and Peekaboo bags, is embodied by the fresh scent "Perché No" - a name winking to the Italian expression for "Why not" that she has turned into her mantra.

Through notes of sandalwood and pepper accents, Venturini Fendi wanted to evoke a white sheet drying in the sun in the garden of "I Casali del Pino," her estate in the Roman countryside where the Fendi family gathers on weekends.

With "Prima Terra," Jones looked to pay tribute to Southern and Eastern Africa, instead. "When we created the fragrance, my desire was to bring together all the scents that made up this chapter of my life: my youth in Africa," he said about reflecting his childhood memories and local landscapes through the likes of tangerine, rosemary and oak moss.

In the same vein, Fendi's fourth generation represented by Delettrez Fendi and sister Leonetta Luciano Fendi is embodied by the "Sempre Mio" and "Ciao Amore" scents, respectively, inspired by places close to the siblings' hearts. The former's is the Ourika valley just outside Marrakech, while the latter's is the Italian island of Ponza, where the family spends their summers.

"La Baguette" is dedicated to Delettrez Fendi's young twins Tazio and Dardo, in an ironic reference to their snack - a slice of bread with butter and sugar - as well as to the inception of the brand's signature accessory.

"I was pregnant when I designed the Baguette bag: it's a timeless piece that will always be associated with the idea of a new generation," Venturini Fendi said.

The Roman roots of the house are expressed through the refillable glass flacon. This has a subtle arch design nodding to local architecture - including the facade of the company's Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana headquarters - and is finished off by a black cap with the FF logo in relief and a brass ring.

The arched element will also define the special window installation Fendi will set up at its Cannes store, which will be the first to carry the collection on June 4. The Fendi boutique in Paris' Rue Saint-Honoré will follow on June 10, before the official rollout at a wide selection of Fendi stores worldwide as well as the brand's e-commerce that will kick off on June 20. In China, the fragrances will be available starting in September.

In addition to the 100-ml format, a box with all seven fragrances offered in a miniature 10-ml size will be also available to purchase at 300 euros.

To further mark the launch, the brand created the Miniature Holder leather charm to be able to carry one's favorite scent anywhere.

Priced at 290 euros, the accessory replicates the playful spirit of the Fendi x Chupa Chups lollipop holder bags that went viral after the brand's fall 2024 show in February. These were constructed out of Selleria leather - known for its quality and craftsmanship, often hand-stitched with intricate detailing - making for one of the heritage codes that Fendi has started to revamp ahead of its 100th anniversary.

"These are perfect examples showing what a brand like Fendi has to do. There's an ironic side that has to exist: a beautiful product, a perfect technique but all expressed lightheartedly," Brunschwig said.

Late-night shot put steals the show at Penn boys track sectional won't end for another day

what is the high end

This story will be updated Friday night once results of the pole vault, long jump and high jump are made available.

MISHAWAKA — Gage Goralski cocked his left leg back one time. Then a second. Then a third.

On the fourth time, he moved his whole body as well, lunging forward to throw the shot put one last time. It landed 51 feet and 3 inches later, bringing an end to night one of the Penn boys track and field sectional at 10:34 p.m.

Once again, Mother Nature was cruel to area sectional meets this week , as a rainstorm that came through right when the meet was supposed to start Thursday delayed the festivities by two hours. Thirteen of the 16 events were completed, with the pole vault, long jump and high jump unable to be performed due to the weather.

More: Penn leads the way at weather-altered Saint Joseph girls track sectional meet

The delay also meant shot put going so late that two different golf carts, a truck and portable lights all had to be brought in to create enough light for the athletes to throw and event workers to measure the distances properly.

“Oh 100%, this is definitely the latest,” Goralski said when asked if he’d ever competed at a meet that late at night. “Like, is this real? I’ve just never experienced anything like this before. … You couldn’t see that well and your perception was different.”

Goralski’s last throw wasn’t even his best. That came during the prelims, where he threw 52 feet, 7.75 inches to reign as shot put sectional champion. The throw was a personal best for the senior, which also made him one of five event winners for the Kingsmen on the night.

“Everything just felt right with that throw,” Goralski said. “There was a lot of excitement around here. You’re just not used to these conditions. It was different nerves coming through.”

Also advancing to regionals from the late-night shot put throwing were LaVille senior Michael Good and South Bend Adams senior Evan Adams. The top three finishers in each event move on to the Goshen regional Thursday, May 23.

Kellen Watson returns for Penn

After missing last week’s Northern Indiana Conference meet with an ankle injury, Penn junior Kellen Watson was back on the track Thursday, albeit in a limited role. Watson only competed in the 100-meter dash, winning with a time of 10.81 seconds.

From last week: With Watson out, Coker takes the spotlight for Penn boys track in NIC

Watson said he didn't get fully cleared to compete until Wednesday afternoon.

“It feels good," Watson said. "I don't really feel much with all the adrenaline and everything, but it feels good. Obviously, a little sorer than I'd like, but it's good though."

Watson is one of the state’s best sprinters, as he clocked in at 10.59 seconds in the 100 during the regular season. He typically competes in the 200-meter dash and on the 4X100-meter relay, but did not run in either of those events at the sectional.

There’s a chance he could be added to the relay for regional — although they’re still pretty fast without him. The quartet of junior Kohen Turner and seniors Elijah Coker, Camden Anderson and Trevor Hardesty set a sectional record with its winning time of 41.87 seconds, breaking a mark that had held for 11 years.

Other standout performances

One of the bigger upsets of the night came in the first race, with Mishawaka winning the 4X800-meter relay. The Cavemen came into the race seeded fourth, yet still won with a time of 8:08.86.

“We haven’t run our four best 800 guys in a 4X8 all year until (the NLC meet) last week ,” Mishawaka junior Liam Bauschke said, who was joined by Toby Quintana, Cameron Melton and Brayden Plonski on the winning relay. “We ran an 8:08 there, and we were like, ‘Wait a minute, we have a chance to win a title.’ We put together the team, we all got into the right mentality and we got the job done. That was a huge moment — some of those guys are seniors, and they’ve never had a sectional championship.”

Bauschke also added an individual win in the 3,200-meter run, winning that race by 13 seconds.

Elsewhere, Saint Joseph senior Luke Kaufhold continued his stranglehold on the hurdle events in the area with wins in the 110- and- 300-meter hurdles. His winning times were 14.67 and 39.62 seconds, respectively.

Kaufhold reached the state meet in both events last year and is hoping to repeat that success in the next two weeks.

“My mindset is to do the best I can to leave high school track and field satisfied that I’ve put the best I can into it,” Kaufhold said. “Not having a good meet or staying in the same time range can be discouraging as a track athlete, but having a good night like this really boosts my confidence.”

Fed Chair’s Confidence in Slowing Inflation Is ‘Not as High’ as Before

Jerome H. Powell, the Federal Reserve chair, said the central bank was poised to leave interest rates on hold after surprisingly stubborn inflation.

Jerome H. Powell speaking behind a lectern into two microphones.

By Jeanna Smialek

Jerome H. Powell, the Federal Reserve chair, reiterated Tuesday that policymakers were poised to hold interest rates steady at a high level as they waited for evidence that inflation is slowing further.

Fed officials entered 2024 expecting to make interest rate cuts, having lifted borrowing costs sharply to a more than two-decade high of 5.3 percent between 2022 and the middle of last year. But stubbornly rapid inflation in recent months has upended that plan.

Central bankers have been clear that rate cuts this year are still possible, but they have also signaled that they are planning to leave interest rates on hold for now as they wait to make sure that inflation is genuinely coming under control.

Speaking during a panel discussion in Amsterdam, Mr. Powell said officials had been surprised by recent inflation readings. The Consumer Price Index inflation measure , which is set for release on Wednesday, came down rapidly in 2023 but has gotten stuck above 3 percent this year. The Fed’s preferred measure, the Personal Consumption Expenditures index, is slightly cooler, but it, too, remains well above the Fed’s 2 percent inflation goal.

“We did not expect this to be a smooth road, but these were higher than I think anybody expected,” Mr. Powell said on Tuesday of recent inflation readings. “What that has told us is that we will need to be patient and let restrictive policy do its work.”

Mr. Powell said that he expected continued growth and a strong labor market in the months ahead, and that he believed inflation would begin to slow again.

But, he said, “my confidence in that is not as high as it was, having seen these readings in the first three months of the year.”

The Fed chair made clear that further interest rates increases are not expected, though not impossible. He said that there was a “very small probability” that the Fed would need to entertain lifting again , but that he did not think that was the most likely outcome.

“It is really a question of keeping policy at the current rate for a longer time than had been thought,” Mr. Powell said. “The question is: Is it sufficiently restrictive? And I think that’s going to be a question that time will have to tell.”

The Fed chair said he still expected rent, a major driver of the recent inflation, to eventually pull down price increases. But he acknowledged that the cool-down was taking longer than expected.

He also noted that it could be taking longer for policy to work this time around, in part because homeowners and businesses locked in very low interest rates when borrowing costs were at rock bottom in the 2010s and in 2020.

“The U.S. economy is different this time,” Mr. Powell said.

Still, he said repeatedly that he thought interest rates were high enough to gradually weigh on growth and eventually bring inflation down the rest of the way.

“At the beginning, we were very concerned that the very high inflation we saw might be quite difficult to bring down without a very significant decline in employment and weakening economic activity — that didn’t happen, that’s just a great result,” Mr. Powell said.

Even though inflation has come down substantially from its highs in 2022, Americans are unhappy with the state of the economy, a fact that is clear in low consumer confidence levels. Mr. Powell attributed that dissatisfaction to continued high price levels.

Because inflation measures changes in price, slower inflation just means that prices are no longer going up as quickly, not that they are coming down after their rapid 2021 and 2022 run-up.

“You tell people, ‘Inflation is coming down,’ and they think, ‘I don’t understand that,’” Mr. Powell said. “Particularly people at the lower end of the income spectrum are very hard hit by inflation, from the start, which is why we’re so committed to restoring price stability and keeping it in place.”
