The airport is the gateway of a country or region that has become a symbol of civilization and culture. Minangkabau International Airport is the gateway of the residents of West Sumatra, it should have a form that can be interpreted very special and reflecting of its culture. This paper aims to interpret the meaning of the airport as a gateway to the region and realign our thinking will be the nature of the modern significance of traditional architecture, so as not get stuck on pragmatism architectural design that seems-if it has been credited with lifting the architectural culture of our ancestors, but just running in place. Analysis through theory-form-function relationships of meaning of Capon and Salura then examined in more detail through the theory of Pierce's semiotics abaout sign, message, and meaning of traditional architectur. Synthesis between modern and traditional elements of harmony does not occur on the object of this study. The use of roof bagonjong as traditional elements are not in harmony with the other building elements whose bare without a touch of local ornamental. The architecture of this airport can not be interpreted as a local gateway and the use of a sign stuck on petty and laity.

Since the high-rise building in today's society, it is very important multi-dimensional and should be paid special attention to this important matter. Because these days we cannot found a place where there are not a tower or tall buildings. Especially, in the big and crowded city which is Tehran one of them. So with the rise in high-rise buildings, buildings should be designed and implemented in such a way that does not harm the urban landscape and on the other hand, the identity of the site and its context. Especially Iranian high background of architectural identity. In this study, I have tried to examine the coordinate of Tehran International Tower building in terms of the context and responding to the needs of the site and whether this building represents the architectural identity of Iran? According to the criteria of high-rise buildings in Iran and other parts of the world and according to the visual inspection, unfortunately, I should say that the building does not coordination with the site and its context and you cannot see Iranian identity in this building. Only an imitation of Western high-rise buildings. No matter the color, material, form consistent with the architectural identity of Iran.

Problem statement: Designing and its methods are always the concerns of people who work in academic and professional fields in different areas. Architecture as one of the central disciplines in this field has always been challenging the genesis of its works during different periods and the thinkers’ opinion from a different point of views; the results of studies showed controversial views about the methodology of designing. Meanwhile, some researchers in psychology and anthropology believe in the influence of some indirect factors in the emergence of artistic works that have led to the appearance of new horizons in the analysis of artworks and its referral to some unconscious agents. Research objective: This study investigates some of the unknown factors and dimensions involved in the formation of architectural work that the designer does not sense it directly, which unconsciously influences the formation of his/her design. Research method: In this research, we used the “mythical criticism” method which by an adaptive analytical approach and an induction method, analyses the elements and concepts that have contributed unconsciously to the creation of the work and interprets its mythical motifs. For this purpose, first, the emergence of archetypes in architecture was described, then an architectural archetype was selected and the work of a contemporary designer was compared with the selected archetype. Conclusion: Using the mythical criticism method, it was found that the spatial system of the Yokohama port terminal, which an Iranian architect has been involved in its designing, was consistent with the spatial system of the Iranian garden archetype.

Terminal is a public service, a place for up and down passengers, a place for transfers between public and a place for the arrival and departure of public transport. The terminal can drive the transportation system because it is an infrastructure that can increase the mobility of vehicles and users. At the Bandar Kajum terminal in the City of Tebing Tinggi, it is necessary to maximize the function of the terminal both in terms of facilities and building mass that is able to combine strength, usability and beauty so as to produce balance. To produce such a large building mass, hybrid architecture was chosen as an approach in designing the Bandar Kajum terminal because hybrid architecture is a combination of different planning and design elements in an environment. The research method used in this study is an approach with a descriptive method that aims to identify the application of a hybrid to the design which is carried out through eclectic stages, modifications and merging as a wa...

The architecture of Airport terminals is unique in nature as it is linked with a wide range of concerns that go hand in hand to demonstrate the efficient functioning of the building. From an inconvenient mode of travel to the city center to the congestions in the security screening, concerns varying from urban design to systems engineering have an impact on the user experience. Along with these concerns, the spatial organization of the airport terminals accommodates various commercial, leisure, retail, and service-based spaces in addition to the core function of aviation. Where the guiding parameters for determining the spatial requirements are dependent on the projected life span, security restrictions, and other socio-political influences. An airport terminal is bound to maintain a stable balance between all of the above parameters and disruption in any of the above can cause major fluctuations in the performance of the airport terminals. According to the United States department of transportation, federal aviation administration(advisory circular 2014) the initial stages of the design for any existing or new airport are derived from the ‘Master planning report’. This report is comprised of airport layout, environmental studies, analysis of runway orientation, land use plans, activity forecasts, capacity analysis, estimates of facilities, and more. To achieve a balanced environment capable of satisfying the concerns of various institutions it is important that the positioning of each amenity is carefully curated and is designed to perform as expected for several years.

The vulnerability of terminal buildings to the technological and infrastructural changes is one of the main problems with the airports. This thesis attempts to analyze different components that cause airport terminals to be rigid to the changes. Following the performance analysis for airport terminals, this project proposed a design solution that exhibits a potential way of increasing the efficiency and life span of the airport terminals. While the flexibility of physical infrastructure is one of the ways to absorb the increasing congestions in the building, it also needs to be organized so that it can ease the tensions in a positive way and do not cause unnecessary complexities. To acknowledge this circumstance and find a fact-based resolution to this issue, this project proposes to work out a system of constants and variables where a series of elements can be retained for a comparatively longer period and be more stationary than the variables of the design that can be changed over a shorter period. Based on the analysis of airport terminals in general and a focused analysis of one particular location this project will propose a unique design solution for the medium hub airport terminals and provide a proof of concept by re-imagining the design of Bradley airport at Hartford.
