In a heartwarming gesture, Vermont State University’s Castleton campus has awarded a honourary degree to a cherished member: Max the cat. This honourary degree, dubbed "doctor of litter-ature," was bestowed upon Max ahead of the students' graduation, recognising not his mousing skills or penchant for napping, but his friendly and affectionate nature.

Max has been a beloved presence at the Castleton campus for years, known for his friendly interactions with students and faculty alike. Living with his owners on Seminary Street, Max often visits friends outside Leavenworth Hall, bringing joy and smiles to everyone he meets. His presence on campus has made him an integral part of the Castleton community.

The university highlighted Max’s contributions in a heartfelt caption: “Max the Cat has been an affectionate member of the Castleton family for years. He lives with his wonderful owners on Seminary Street and loves socialising with friends outside Leavenworth. While his adventures may have slowed, Max exemplifies the #CastletonWay and we are honoured to have him as a member of VTSU’s #firstclass.”

"With a resounding purr of approval from the faculty, the Board of Trustees of the Vermont State Cat-leges has bestowed upon Max Dow the prestigious title of Doctor of Litter-ature, complete with all the catnip perks, scratching post privileges, and litter box responsibilities that come with it,” the Facebook post added.
