The need to make cities in Africa more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable (Sustainable Development Goal 11) is undisputed as rapid urban growth rates are set to make the African region a key hub in the global transition to a predominantly urban world. This perspective presents findings from a research project conducted in the cities of Luanda, Angola and Maputo, Mozambique, which used citizen science to generate data on selected indicators of the urban Sustainable Development Goal and use this data to inform more inclusive, sustainable and participatory urban planning and policymaking. Based on the research, we argue that meeting SDG 11 will ultimately depend on the spaces and mechanisms for knowledge co-production and sharing that are produced in the process.

Does Self-Efficacy Moderate the Contribution of Metacognitive Awareness to Listening Comprehension? Current studies relate the issue of listening skills to several aspects. However, it still requires more empirical finding on the contribution of self-efficacy and metacognition toward listening comprehension. This study aimed to find the effect of metacognition on listening ability through self-efficacy and seek a suitable structural model. The chosen design was ex post facto research with a correlation using a path analysis model. This research was conducted at one of the state Islamic high schools in the city of Kediri. A total of 250 ten grader students participated in this research. Three instruments were used to collect data, including a closed questionnaire about self-efficacy, a closed questionnaire about students' metacognition sensitivity, and listening questions that adopted the TOEFL Junior Test. The results showed that the metacognitive influence model on listening di...

Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a fundamental process in vascular remodeling. Carotid artery ligation is commonly used for induction of neointima formation and vessel stenosis; however, the precise regulatory mechanism of vascular remodeling is not entirely understood. In this study, we showed that resident endothelial cells (ECs) are the origin of neointima cells and ECs transiently expressed CD45 in the early stage of neointima formation accompanied by increased expression of EndMT markers. In vitro, CD45-positive EndMT was induced by stabilization of HIF-1α with cobalt chloride or VHL inhibitor in human primary ECs, which mimicked the hypoxic condition of ligated artery, and promoted the formation of integrin α11-SHARPIN complex. Notably, a CD45 phosphatase inhibitor disrupted this complex, thereby destabilizing cell-cell junctions. These results suggest that the CD45 activity is required for the retention of an EC phenotype and cell-cell junctions during EndMT (...
