Research teams are embedded all throughout Google, allowing our discoveries to affect billions of users each day. From creating experiments and prototyping implementations to designing new architectures, our team members and interns work on real-world problems including artificial intelligence, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analysis, improving compilers for mobile platforms, as well as core search and much more.

Google offers a variety of opportunities for students who wish to gain industry experience. Through our Getting to know a research intern series, we provide a glimpse into some of these opportunities as well as the impactful projects research students at Google work on. Today we’re featuring Paul Rubenstein, from the University of Cambridge.

A practical and rewarding introduction to AI

Google DeepMind’s Student Researcher Program offers placements across a number of teams, for research, engineering and science roles.

A placement offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s leading thinkers in AI and work on its application for social good. Our projects offer hands-on experience working collaboratively on projects that push the frontiers of AI and science.

The program is open to students enrolled in either a bachelor degree, masters program or PhD program.

Placements are between 12-24 weeks long at a minimum of 80% time.

All placements are colocated with their host, working from the same location

The Building Opportunities for Leadership and Development (BOLD) Internship Program is a paid, virtual summer internship (July 22, 2024 – August 9, 2024) for rising undergraduate seniors that are interested in business careers in the technology industry and full-time job opportunities at Google.

The program aims to expose historically underrepresented students in this field to career opportunities in the industry and to prepare all entry-level talent to be ambassadors for diversity, equity, and inclusion in their careers.

Students from all schools, and students who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented in the technology industry, including but not limited to Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, students with disabilities, and veterans, are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility :

  • Be an incoming third year of a four year BA/BS program, in any major at an accredited university or college in the United States for the 2024-2025 academic year
  • Demonstrate academic excellence
  • Be authorized to work in the United States

Job Summary:

As the Global D&I Project Specialist Intern, you will play a crucial role in assisting the organization in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. You will collaborate with the D&I team to develop and implement programs and strategies that promote diversity and inclusion across all aspects of the organization.

Responsibilities:

Program Support:

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of D&I initiatives, events, and training programs.
  • Provide oversight on key program elements by tracking and follow-up with participants/vendors.
  • Assist in creating resources for employee education on D&I topics.
  • Leverage event management and project management skills to plan for and executive on several events.

Communication and Outreach:

  • Assist in drafting internal communications related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Support efforts to engage employees in D&I-related activities and initiatives.

Employee Resource Group (ERG) Engagement:

  • Collaborate with employee resource groups to provide support for their programs.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Provide research support for D&I projects and proposals.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate program.
  • Strong interest in diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework or experience in diversity and inclusion, sociology, psychology, human resources, or related fields.
  • Previous involvement in D&I initiatives or student organizations.
  • Understanding of cultural competency and sensitivity.
