The media has responded toward unethical behavior in rainforests during the ‘80’s, triggering

the still upcoming trend of investigation of ethical considerations, as described by Macfarlane

(1995). Many researchers are constantly improving the ethical theories and showing

continued change in the perception of ethics (Svensson & Wood, 2007)

The purpose of this research is to identify the effect of ethics on the proactive or reactive

behavior of companies, with a downward tendency provided in the value chain.

The theoretical framework consists out of a set of theories supporting the goal of identifying

ethics within a company, applying a new business ethics model and measuring the pro-active

and re-active behavior of the stakeholder in the value chain. Finally, all the theories used, are

combined in an integrated theoretical model used to justify the collection of empirical data

and to give structure to the analysis.

The empirical data has been gathered through non structured and semi-structured interviews

with customers, employees within the case company, and a supplier to the case company.

These findings are complemented with secondary data gathered through websites, annual

reports, codes of conduct, media articles and others sources.

The findings of the study showed that the (in the theoretical framework) assumption of a

downward effect in perception and change in ethical considerations is not as obvious as

previously thought. Within this case study, the ethical influences come from the case

company, situated in the middle of the value chain, influencing both the consumer and the

supplier, in ethical considerations.

Corporate citizenship is a debatable topic, according to many authors corporate citizenship is equivalent to corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and business ethics. Therefore, we have explained all the four theories in order to equip our reader with the subject in concern. This topic is of growing concern taking the evolutions of the subject, the previous and ongoing scandals into consideration.   The paper will present an overview of the concept of Corporate Citizenship and its alliances and provides the readers with different definitions of the above mentioned concept. We explained the relation between Corporate Citizenship (CC) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). We shall use both the terms CC and CRS interchangeably. After going through the literature we felt that there was not enough written about the leader’s role with regards to the ideology of Corporate Citizenship. Therefore, we took the opportunity and used these concepts to screen Steve Job the CEO of apple against the norms of corporate citizenship. Our choice of topic was also motivated by Fortune Magazine 2008-2009 edition.   We used Explorative study to fill our research gap by framing very general and broad research questions. A qualitative study was conducted with fifty (50) people from Umeå – Sweden.  Our interviewees were mostly students from university and one interview was conducted from the IT head of a public organization from Umeå Sweden.   Defying the theoretical concepts we used, we concluded that the consumers we interviewed embrace highly about the concepts of Corporate Citizenship but in practice, they did not bother to take these concepts into consideration before buying the product

Wiktorin, Eva. "Organic labelled foodstuff on the Swedish market - KRAV’s work with segmentation, positioning, brand and credibility. : MBA-thesis in marketing." Thesis, University of Gävle, Department of Business Administration and Economics, 2008. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hig:diva-464.

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate how an organization which is based on ethic and social responsibility works with segmentation, positioning and brand. Do their specific need of credibility have any impact on how they work with segmentation, positioning and brand? How do they work with credibility? KRAV is an ingredient brand based on ethic and social responsibility, they operate in the Swedish organic foodstuff market offering organic standards, certification and inspections according to these standards and a KRAV-label. In other words, credibility is the base for KRAV’s operations. KRAV is also receiving national grants to finance information material/marketing material.

Research questions: How does KRAV work with segmentation, positioning and brand? How does KRAV work with credibility?

Method: I have chosen to do this study by studying documents published by KRAV; the main source has been KRAV’s annual reports from 1999-2006, the second source has been KRAV’s homepage and the third source has been folders published by KRAV. The analysis was done by combining findings about KRAV with theories about segmentation, positioning, brand and credibility to see how KRAV works with these areas.

Result & Conclusions: By summarization, my study shows that KRAV both is adopting and actively working with segmentation, positioning and brand which may be business driven and at the same time trying to tone done the business incentive on how they formulate goals and missions. Marketing theories are getting more and visible over the years. KRAV has formulated its’ vision and mission based on four principals; Good environment, Animal welfare, Good health and Social responsibility but they also include inspected organic products with high credibility and they try to position itself not only as an eco-label but also with added value in the areas of the four principals.

Suggestions for future research: One limitation in this study is that I have not studied competitors on the Swedish foodstuff market. Or the actual impact of the fact that KRAV receives national grants, does this disturb the competition? One interesting aspect is if an ingredient brand based on ethic and social responsibility can work with segmentation, positioning and brand without loosing any credibility? May this cause a conflict in the long run? One may also look at the fact that KRAV, by far the dominating label on the Swedish organic foodstuff market, is financing most of its information material/marketing material by national grants. Is it better for the increase of organic foodstuff market to support one large player (KRAV) or should national grants be used to increase knowledge of organic foodstuff and sustainability in general not supporting one specific actor? Which way would maximum the use of the tax money? Or is both needed?

Contribution of the thesis: This study has shown that KRAV, which is based on ethics and social responsibility, has adopted theories such as segmentation, positioning and brand.

Due to more and more competition on the market companies find it harder to get  their  message  through  to  the  customers.  Nowadays,  popularity  for commercials is decreasing and the possibilities to skip commercials increases everyday. A relatively new form to reach out to the customers is to wrap up the advertising  in editorial material and make an ordinary TV-program,  i.e. pay for part- or the whole production.

Marketing Dissertation Topics

Thomas Babb

If you’re getting ready to write your marketing dissertation, congratulations! You’re almost at the end of the road. The dissertation is an important part of any degree. You want to have a title that you can be proud of. A title should be interesting to you, while also aiming to further the field of marketing. This article will break down some marketing dissertation topics, pointing you in the right direction. By the end, you’ll understand a little more about how to choose a marketing dissertation topic, as well as reading some great examples.

Types of marketing

When deciding on your marketing dissertation topic, you first need to establish which part of marketing you’re really interested in. Are you a whiz at social media marketing? Maybe you have a passion for market research? Whatever it is, you’ve got to begin to narrow down your topic. Start by selecting a branch of marketing that you’re interested in.

Some possible areas of research could be:

  • Advertising
  • Brand management
  • Consumer behaviour
  • Content marketing
  • Digital marketing
  • Market research
  • Public relations
  • Search engine marketing
  • Social media marketing

You could even decide to focus on one area of research within a marketing field. For example, some fantastic dissertations have been conducted in the fashion marketing or sports marketing fields. Once you know the area of marketing that you want to write about, it becomes much easier to find a title that works for you.

How to find a good marketing dissertation title?

Once you’ve established the type of dissertation you want to write, it’s time to think of a title. Go back through modules you’ve studied at university and see if there were any you really enjoyed. If there has been a standout module for you, it would be a good idea to take a look through your notes. Was there a topic that stood out? If so, that’s where you should begin. What did you find interesting? Are there any gaps in the research for that area?

When designing a dissertation project, you want to ensure you can answer three questions.

First of all,  what  is this research going to achieve? You should have identified a gap in the current theory that you intend to fill with your research. Alternatively, your marketing dissertation could exemplify a piece of current theory, providing further clarification of concepts.

Your research could slightly alter the perceived notion of how a certain aspect of marketing is currently understood. Next, you need to ask yourself  why  you are undertaking this research. Again, this will come with clarifying the purpose of your dissertation. If you know the why, you will naturally lead yourself to higher grades.

A dissertation that aims to prove something is bound to have a tighter focus. Due to this, it will likely lend itself to a better final mark. Finally, you need to identify  how  your research will take place. Most good marketing dissertations will contain an element of self-conducted research.

Once you know the what and why of your dissertation, you can then begin to plot a clear map towards getting those final answers. Will you be using primary data in your dissertation? What about quantitative analysis of established data? Depending on the form of data you’ll be using, your research will shape up differently. Once you’ve established the what, why, and how of your dissertation, you’ll have a project clearly outlined in your mind. Now, all you need to do is write a title that clearly presents the project!

Possible Marketing Dissertation Titles

  • To understand the style of dissertation title that you need to write, here are some examples. These stretch across all areas of marketing, from digital right down to product marketing.
  • The impact of social media marketing on global business development
  • How colours influence sales – a study into effective branding
  • A strategic analysis of the impact of keyword analysis on search engine optimisation
  • The most important factors to consider when creating an online sales platform
  • How investment into environmentally conscious branding impacted the sales of online clothing stores: a case study of Zara.

Recently, this dissertation titled ‘ From franchisee experience to customer experience: their effects on franchisee performance ’ received a first-class grade. If you want another high-scoring example, take a look at  this dissertation . The title was ‘A Marketing Enigma: Consumer Brand Engagement with Health and Fitness Brands on Instagram’. It also received a high first.

Closing Thoughts

Whatever you choose for your marketing dissertation title, just make sure you find it interesting. You’ll perform better if you actually have a passion for what you’re researching. Use these titles as a base, but find one that makes you tick. Next step, onto the writing! If you need any help finding a marketing dissertation title or any other area of your dissertation, i.e., acknowledgements , be sure to get in contact with one of our expert tutors. They’ll be able to talk through your ideas and clarify any points that you need guidance on.

Veteran MP Diane Abbott has told Sky News that reports she will be barred from standing as a Labour candidate at this election are true.

The MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington was suspended by the party more than a year ago after suggesting Jewish people did not experience racism, but rather prejudice similar to red heads.

She swiftly apologised and withdrew her remarks.

While a Labour investigation into her comments ended in December, she was made to wait for the outcome.

A report in The Times yesterday suggested she'd been banned from standing for the party at the election on 4 July.

Ms Abbott has told Sky News this morning that the report is correct.

She added: "As of yesterday evening, I have not heard from the party directly."

It's not yet been confirmed whether she will stand for election again - Labour's deadline for picking candidates is 4 June.

The party has been contacted for comment.

Polls in Scotland show that the SNP faces a real challenge at this general election, with some suggesting they could lose half their seats.

But the party's Westminster leader, Stephen Flynn, told Sky News that this is "the exciting thing about an election".

"Polls swing one way, they swing the other way. And what we know as the most important poll is on the 4th of July."

The SNP, he said, wants to be talking about the cost of living crisis, energy bills, and economic growth.

The most important priority for the SNP is to "see an end to Tory austerity", and hit out at both parties for what the Institute of Fiscal Studies has called a "conspiracy of silence" around the real sums of money required for the public sector in the coming years.

But more broadly, Mr Flynn said: "What we would ultimately like to see Scotland become that independent nation so that we don't have to rely upon Westminster to try and improve the lives of people."

Asked what the SNP's mandate would be if they lose half their seats, he replied that it would come from "winning the election".

He hit out at Labour in Scotland, saying they are taking their poll lead "for granted", and said: "We have of course taken a slight dip in the polls, but I'm very confident that with that positive message we have put in Scotland first we can get over the line and deliver for the people of Scotland again."

Pushed by Sky's Kay Burley, he said they are "looking to retain every single seat that we have and also looking to win all the seats from other parties."

"Bacon, prime minister," said the political editor of the Times.

File that one under sentences you only hear on the campaign trail.

Rishi Sunak had just got off the overnight sleeper train from London to Penzance when he headed immediately into the tiny Sullivan's Cafe outside the station to pick up breakfast for the travelling media pack.

Making a spectacle of feeding the press is something of a campaign ritual.

But it's unlikely to produce more sympathetic coverage, especially when the sausage sandwiches are as lacking in ketchup as they were this morning.

Next with the SNP's Stephen Flynn, we ask how the party's election campaign is going amid reports that one MP, Tommy Sheppard, had only raised £70 for his campaign by last Sunday.

The Westminster leader replied: "I bet you any money in the world that Tommy Sheppard will have one of the best funded and most exciting campaigns in Edinburgh."

He said crowdfunding campaigns are just one stream of income, and candidates get donations from people "on the side", and from others who want to remain anonymous.

Mr Flynn also explained that the party itself will give money to candidates for their campaigns.

"Our party in particular relies upon our members to donate.

"We don't have the unions. We don't have big business, like the Conservative Party do.

"So our membership donates to the party and our party makes sure that candidates are supported."

He added he is "very confident that right across Scotland we'll be in a position to fund our campaign and to take forward our positive message of putting Scotland first".

We've just been speaking with the SNP's Westminster leader, and we started with the claim from veteran MP Diane Abbott that Labour will be blocking her from standing at this election ( more here ).

Stephen Flynn said it is a "pretty sorry state of affairs".

"Natalie Elphicke [who defected from the Tories] is obviously welcomed with open arms, the right wing populist, into the Labour Party."

He went on: "I'd just like to thank Diane for everything she's done as a trailblazer for women in parliament, but also as the first black female in parliament.

"She's a phenomenal individual and her legacy is going to be long-lasting."

Mr Flynn added that it is "a pretty sorry reflection of the Labour Party and where it stands, what its values are, and what its principles are at the moment".

What are the rules on voter ID?  How does tactical voting work? In what different ways can you cast your ballot?

The countdown to the election is on - and already the amount of information can seem overwhelming.

We cut through the noise to bring you what you need to know, from registering to vote, to election day and what happens next.

Police said yesterday they will take no further action against Labour's Angela Rayner after accusations were made by Tory party deputy chair James Daly surrounding her living arrangements in 2010.

Reports suggested she may have lived primarily at her then husband's address in Stockport, despite registering to vote under her own nearby - which could be a breach of electoral rules.

Ms Rayner had repeatedly denied the claims ( read more here ).

We asked Tory minister Damian Hinds if the party or Mr Daly owe Ms Rayner an apology, and he replied: "This all could have been cleared up a great deal earlier had Sir Keir Starmer simply read Angela's tax advice and it had been published.

"That's what all the unclarity, all the uncertainty was about."

Continuing to pile blame onto Labour, the minister said: "It could have been cleared up quite some time ago. And it was let drag on. And that, I think, is regrettable."

Pushed on if Mr Daly should apologise to Labour's deputy leader, he replied: "No."

The Tories unveiled plans to unfreeze tax thresholds for retirees to ensure they never pay income tax on the state pension.

But analysis from the i newspaper this morning suggests the move will save retirees relying on the state pension just £14.60 a year by 2028 - or around 28p per week.

We put to schools minister Damian Hinds that it's not exactly a coup for pensioners, and replied that it's "not only the money - there's also the admin that comes with having to pay tax".

He insisted that it's an "important principle" to ensure pensioners aren't paying tax on the state pension.

We've just been hearing from Damian Hinds, minister for schools.

We started with the Tory party's pledge to replace "rip-off degrees" with 100,000 apprenticeships each year by the end of the next parliament if they win the general election.

He explained the party wants to ensure that "when people are making investments in themselves, that that is time and money well-spent".

"For some, that will be university and for some it will be apprenticeship. And in both cases, we want to make sure the quality is really high," he said.

He went on to say the government has been investing in apprenticeships in "improving" apprenticeships in recent years, and they want to expand them "significantly".

Sky's Kay Burley put to the minister that apprenticeship starts have fallen from 131,400 in 2015 to 77,000 in 2022/23, and he replied that one cannot compare like for like because changes have been made, such as making them longer and improving standards.

"So the apprenticeships that you have now are significantly upgraded compared to what we've had in the past," he said, arguing that there is "the opportunity now to grow that very significantly".

Asked about the cost, he said it will be around £900m, funded through reducing "the amount of money that goes into degrees, the ones that aren't performing well".

But he refused to name individual courses because it "would not be fair" to those people already on them, and said the Office for Students, which oversees university courses, would use "objective criteria" to make the assessment.

In her first major campaign speech, Rachel Reeves has pitched herself as the UK's next chancellor to an audience of company bosses, promising the "most pro-growth Treasury in our country's history" if Labour wins the election.

But after pledging not to announce any new tax hikes and that Labour policies would be fully funded and costed, how she intends to pay for Labour's plan for the UK remains unclear.

Today on the Sky News Daily, Sophy Ridge speaks with our deputy political editor Sam Coates to discuss the woman hoping to be in charge of the public finances, and whether Labour will be able to please workers and businesses while delivering on a promise of "economic stability" at the same time.

This is fast shaping up to be the biggest spending election ever - and already the Conservatives are spending their cash begging their voters not to defect to Reform.

Take paid political adverts on Meta, which owns Instagram and Facebook. Labour started strong and is still seriously outpacing the Conservatives.

And the picture on Google-owned sites - we're mainly talking about YouTube - is even more stark.

Here, the Conservatives have spent £50,200 since May 22, according to Who Targets Me. Labour has spent £250,350 - more than five times more.

Put it another way - that's roughly 10 million advert plays versus 50 million.
