If you're considering pursuing a graduate degree, you might be wondering how long it takes to earn a Ph.D. in psychology . Generally, a bachelor's degree takes four years of study. While a master's degree requires an additional two to three years of study beyond the bachelor's, a doctoral degree can take between four to six years of additional graduate study after earning your bachelor's degree.

Recently, a new degree option known as the Psy.D. , or doctor of psychology, has grown in popularity as an alternative to the Ph.D. The type of degree you decide to pursue depends on a variety of factors, including your own interests and your career aspirations.

Research suggests that there are few discernible differences in terms of professional recognition, employment opportunities, or clinical skills between students trained in the Ph.D. or Psy.D. models. • A non-refundable, non-transferable $50 application fee will be posted on the current application upon enrollment (waived for qualifying service members, veterans, and military spouses – documentation verifying military status is required) .

Preliminary Acceptance

If you are sending in a preliminary transcript for acceptance, you must:

• Be in your final term and planning to start your doctoral degree after the last day of class for your master’s degree.
• Complete a Master’s Self-Certification Form confirming your completion date. You may download the form from the Forms and Downloads page or contact an admissions counselor to submit the form on your behalf.
• Submit an official transcript to confirm that you are in your final term. The preliminary transcript must show that you are within 6 credit hours of completion for a 30-48 credit hour master’s degree or within 9 credit hours of completion for a 49+ credit hour master’s degree.
• Send in an additional, final official transcript with a conferral date on it by the end of your first semester of enrollment in the new doctoral degree.

Our Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) service is comprised of a friendly and committed team who is passionate about working with, and advocating for, people experiencing significant mental health difficulties in the Nottingham area. The service delivers an evidence-based, and compassionate approach to those in our communities with difficulties often associated with a Personality Disorder diagnosis. You will be part of a wider team consisting of Assistant Psychologists and Peer Support Workers and be regularly supervised by a Practitioner Psychologist.

You will support the delivery of a structured, and skills-based program based on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and offer support to individuals experiencing emotional dysregulation and other difficulties often associated with a Personality Disorder diagnosis.

You will be providing evidence based, individual and group sessions, and support for people accessing our service utilizing face-to-face, telephone, and digital technology (MS Teams) formats. You will also be carrying out comprehensive psychological assessments as well as assisting the team with developing risk formulations under the supervision of a Practitioner Psychologist. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and motivated to work with our team to ensure individuals have access to high quality, evidence-based support in line with Turning Point’s policies and procedures and relevant professional guidelines.

The ideal candidate

Having an upper second-class honours degree in Psychology and eligibility for graduate membership with the British Psychological Society would be essential.

You will also have experience working with individuals experiencing mental health difficulties and delivering psychosocial interventions (individually or in groups). Being able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, having a good understanding of how to conduct psychological assessments including risk formulation as well as managing your workload independently would also be important. On a practical level, you will have excellent organisational skills, effective communication, and a willingness to be flexible in your approach.

Having further knowledge and skills base of working with individuals with a diagnosis of Personality Disorder or emotional regulation difficulties would be an advantage.
