Transportation engineering is one of the major branches of civil engineering and it involves planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of transportation facilities. This field imbibes in each student analytic, problem-solving, and management skills suitable for public and private sector professional works. Students are trained on the application of various software and programming skills for simulation of traffic flow and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to address urban transportation issues. Even though there are a large number of institutions in India producing Transportation Engineers, there is a shortage of quality Transportation Engineering graduates. The graduates will get opportunities in well-known infrastructure companies involved in transportation planning and construction where they exhibit effective and efficient problem-solving skills to provide economical and sustainable solutions in India and abroad.
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) at RUAS plans further development of Transportation engineering and compete with the best universities in the world and attract high-quality graduates as well as teaching talent from all over the country and abroad.

Online Elective
Students can choose elective courses online through MOOCs, SWAYAM, NPTEL and other equivalent platforms, adhering to guidelines prescribed by the University.
Group Project
A group project can involve up to 5 students who can work together in an interdisciplinary gorup of subjects, constituted with members from across faculty. Students are required to develop a report for assessment and also need to demonstrate the working of the product. The IPR rights of all such work lies with the University only.
Industry Internship or Project
A student can opt for an internship in an industry, a business or research organization during the module. Alternately, can undertake a mini-project requiring self-directed study that can be perused within the affiliated Faculty. It is also necessary for the student to submit a report and make a presentation to the members of the panel constituted by the HoD for assessment.
Dissertation and Publication
This course has two parts, and a student has to undertake thesis work in a chosen relevant topic. The topic needs to be approved by a committee constituted by a HOD. Later, students need to convert their thesis into a technical paper and publication to publish in reputed conferences or journals.

Study Domains
Course specialisation.
- Includes advanced knowledge and an understanding of transportation engineering with higher order critical, analytical, problem-solving and transferable skills. Ensures the ability to think rigorously and independently to meet higher level expectations of transportation industry, academics, research or take up entrepreneurial route.
Department — Common Course
An interactive deep dive into the core domain of transportation engineering, including construction planning and contract management artificial intelligence and finite element analysis.
Mandatory Courses
- An overview of pavement engineering, traffic engineering, transport planning, airport engineering, railway engineering, and intelligent transport systems.
Students can choose from a list of courses offered across the university from multiple disciplines to earn credits.
Elective Module
- Active participation and output-based projects, seminars and internships in industry.
Faculty Common Modules
- Students can choose from subjects offered within civil engineering to develop a sharper skill in any of these electives.

Semester 4 (electives).
*Elective Courses
There are 4 electives in the programme. The electives are grouped such a way that a student can choose a set of electives to specialize in a chosen field/stream. However, if the student wishes to opt for elective course that spans multiple streams, the case may be considered subject to the affordability of academic logistics and approval by the course leader, HODs and Deans. For every elective offered, there will be a minimum and a maximum number of registrations that is decided by the department. There is also a provision for the students to choose Electives through on-line mode such as MOOC’s, SWAYAM, NPTEL and other equivalent platforms. The guidelines prescribed by the University for such Courses to be adhered to. The student can also earn 3 or 4 credits by participating in the international competitions like technical presentation/conference/publications in the journal etc and winning the award in that. In that case he/she can be exempted from one of the elective courses of the programme.
Teaching and Assessment
During each semester, students’ performance is assessed through Continuous Evaluation (CE) which includes teacher interaction, session examination and a Semester End Examination (SEE). CE and SEE weightages carry equal weightage.
Students are awarded grades based on the marks scored.

Indian nationals.
- Candidates must have a BE/B.Tech. or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Transportation Engineering, Automotive/Automobile, Industrial Production Engineering or allied disciplines related to Civil Engineering.
- Candidates who belong to SC/ST categories are given a different qualifying mark as per government notifications.

In addition to hands-on class time, you can expect an immersive program where internships and research opportunities are integrated so you walk onto your first jobsite after graduation fully prepared.
Learn the various aspect of construction projects, such as scheduling, cost estimating and accounting, CAD, safety, human resources, machinery, and regulatory compliance, through our new bachelor’s degree in construction management.
A Master of Science student may elect to focus on Civil Engineering. Within the civil engineering field, students may opt to further concentrate focus on structural engineering, geotechnical, and water hydraulics or hydrology fields. Thesis and non-thesis options are available. Research is encouraged.
