Why you'll love them

Lightweight.

Miniatures are heavy when you’re carrying dozens of them around with you to and from games. Tactical Tokens however, are super lightweight, only a few grams per piece, so feel free to bring that horde of 500 orcs to your next encounter (and leave their defeated legion scattered across the battlefield).

Inexpensive

A single standard, unpainted miniature costs as much as six times more than one of our full-color tokens. The savings only go up when considering larger and larger creatures.

Wet & Dry Erase Safe

Easily draw statuses, items, number, labels, or even mustaches on the tokens with wet or dry erase markers and wipe them clean whenever you want.

Scratch & Spill Resistant

Clumsy players? Tactical Tokens are spill resistant and easily wiped off when you accidentally go into a barbarian rage and elbow your “water bottle“. Don’t worry about scratching them either. Every Tactical Token is covered in self-healing resin.

Stackable Stickiness

With a small pinch, Tactical Tokens will stick together better then your average adventuring party. They’ll also stick to any other dry erase surface. Don’t worry, they unstick just as easily.

Double Sided

Quickly flip tokens to reveal a black-and-white version to easily represent conditions like being unconscious, asleep, or dead.

The 5 Best Free D&D Token Maker Websites

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Over the past few years D&D tokens have exploded in popularity. These simple, one-inch discs are essentially a replacement for 3D miniatures and can be used to represent an endless variety of monsters, characters and objects, allowing players to explore terrain or resolve combat using a D&D battlemat .

While not quite as impressive as metal or plastic miniatures, D&D tokens are a fraction of the cost. And while you can purchase pre-made tokens from your local game store or sites like Amazon and Etsy, many gamers often create their own. These can range in complexity and quality. From glossy stickers added to durable plastic chips, to simply printing the tokens out on a sheet of paper.

In some cases, more artistic DMs even design their own creatures and NPCs, even turning raw stats from DnD character sheets into PC tokens that players can use. Bear in mind that while it’s totally cool to use existing art in your own personal games, printing and selling tokens featuring any licensed materials could land you in legal trouble.

With all that in mind, if you’re a do-it-yourself DM, here are our picks for the five best free D&D token maker websites.

A screenshot of the Token Stamp generator tool on the Roll Advantage website.

1. Roll Advantage Token Stamp

This easy to use site allows you to essentially turn any image into a token. You simply drag and drop a file into the editing field and you can then select an outline, background, text, overlay and even adjust the scale before exporting it as a PNG that’s ready for printing or use on digital platforms like Roll20. It’s easily one of the best D&D token makers in existence and, best of all, it’s completely free.

Try out Token Stamp

A screenshot of the VTT Token Maker on the website Fateful Force.

2. The Fateful Force VTT Token Maker

Another simple but effective token maker, this website allows you to upload an image and customize the border, position and overall design. It also allows you to upload directly to Imgur, which has become a go-to for players as it offers a ton of existing D&D tokens . While it doesn’t have quite as many bells and whistle as Roll Advantage, the Fateful Force’s VTT Token Maker is another great option for DIY DMs.

3. Tactical Tokens Fast Token Stamp Maker

Offering a clean interface with the ability to transform virtually any image into a token, this website is simple and easy to use, letting you drag and drop a variety of file formats and exporting the result as a print-ready PNG. Again, it doesn’t have quite the same level of customization as Roll Advantage, but it remains a solid Dungeons & Dragons token maker and will work for just about any playstyle and campaign.

Try the Token Stamp Maker

4. DnD Campaign Planner Token Maker

This tool offers a surprising amount of customization when it comes to token creation. There are however, a few limitations. The platform for example, seems to have trouble with WebP image formats and it can be a little bit touchy about exporting. There is “Premium” paid version that includes a number of pre-made tokens, but the free version is more than capable of getting the job done.

Try the Toker Maker

5. TokenTool

Technically, TokenTool isn’t a website but rather part of RPTools larger suite of software designed for table top roleplaying games. That being said, it’s completely free to download and offers a ton of customization and features. The software is available for PC, Mac and Linux, so pretty much anyone can create some impressive tokens.

You may skip this step if you do not plan to use the random key generator.

Step 1. Generate new address

Choose your currency and click on the "Generate new address" button.

Step 2. Print the Paper Wallet

Click the Paper Wallet tab and print the page on high quality setting. Never save the page as a PDF file to print it later since a file is more likely to be hacked than a piece of paper.

Step 3. Fold the Paper Wallet

Fold in half lengthwise, and then in three widthwise.

Step 4. Share your public address

Use your public address to receive money from other crypto-currency users. You can share your public address as much as you want.

Step 5. Keep your private key secret

The private key is literally the keys to your coins, if someone was to obtain it, they could withdraw the funds currently in the wallet, and any funds that might be deposited in that wallet.

Please test spending a small amount before receiving any large payments.

  • Are you using a secure operating system guaranteed to be free of spyware and viruses, for example, an Ubuntu LiveCD?

Frequently asked questions :

• is it safe .

We try to make it that way ! The core of the tool, that generate the keys is 99% the same as the well reviewed bitaddress.org. We only changed it to be able to generate addresses for different crypto-currencies.

We think that having a unique generator for multiple currencies lead to a much better reviewed tool for all than having a myriad of half-backed generators. Changes made to this generator are available on Github in small and divided commits and those are easy to review and reuse. Walletgenerator.net use the same security measures as the original project. All-in-one html document, no ajax, no analytics, no external calls, no CDN that can inject anything they want. And trust us, we have seen some nasty things when reviewing some wallet generator.

• Why should I use a paper wallet ?

Advantages of a paper wallet are multiple: ⇒ They are not subject to malwares and keyloggers ⇒ You don’t rely on a third party’s honesty or capacity to protect your coins ⇒ You won't lose your coins when your device break

• How to use a paper wallet ?

Once you have generated and printed a wallet, you can send coins to the public address, like for any wallet. Store your paper wallet securely. It contains everything that is needed to spend your funds. Consider using BIP38 to secure your paper wallet with a password.

• How to spend the coins stored in a paper wallet ?

You will need to import your private key in a real client, that you can download from the currency website. The exact method to do that will depend on the client. If there is no integrated method, you can usually fall back to the debug console and use the command “importprivkey [yourprivatekey]“.

• How walletgenerator.net is different than another wallet generator ?

It’s not that different. You will find another design for the paper wallet and some improvements here and there. The big difference is that this is a unique project for a lot of currencies, so more people can review it and check its safety.

• Why should I make a donation ?

Donations money are used to pay our hosting service provider, but it’ll also be used to make walletgenerator.net more secure as we plan to organize a CrowdCurity campain as soon as we get enough money to pay for it.

• I found a bug, what shall I do ?

You can report bugs using GitHub. You can also contact us using our Twitter account ( @WalletGenerator ). Just try to explain clearly what is wrong and we will try to fix the bug as soon as possible.

• Who are you ?

We are just two random guy having fun with a side project.

• How can I help ?

Donation are always welcome, but you can also help us translate the website. It's really easy. Just add "?i18nextract=LANGUAGECODE" in the end of the url (for instance http://walletgenerator.net/?i18nextract=es for Spanish). You will see at the end of the page a pre-filled javascript array ready to be translated. Translate or correct it, and send it to us the way you prefer. Even partial translation are helpful !

  • Paper Token: Gutenberg’s version of One Time Passwords

Nowadays, ensuring proper security for information technology is a mandatory requirement for governments, companies and even individuals. Even protected and hardened system infrastructures are vulnerable to hacking attacks and malware (see the latest press about the “stuxnet” worm infiltrating Iran’s nuclear power plants ). However, high security comes at a price: a lot of security technologies are not easily accessible to their users — especially with regard to the cost of their acquisition or maintenance. So-called One-Time Passwords (OTP) are one such example.

Introducing One-Time Passwords (OTP)

Commercial otp solutions, paper token: gutenberg’s version of otp, is there a future for a paper token.

  • Comments (2)

What are one-time passwords? Wikipedia gives the following definition :

A one-time password (OTP) is a password that is valid for only one login session or transaction. OTPs avoid a number of shortcomings that are associated with traditional (static) passwords . The most important shortcoming that is addressed by OTPs is that, in contrast to static passwords, they are not vulnerable to replay attacks . This means that, if a potential intruder manages to record an OTP that was already used to log into a service or to conduct a transaction, he will not be able to abuse it since it will be no longer valid. On the downside, OTPs cannot be memorized by human beings. Therefore they require additional technology in order to work.

Now let us look at why and when one would like to use OTP. For instance, imagine being at a place such as a cybercafé or a hotel where you cannot trust the local IT infrastructure. Unfortunately, you really need to access your email inbox through a non-encrypted communication channel (e.g. HTTP instead of HTTPS , or IMAP instead of IMAPS ) but at the same time you don’t want to risk revealing your email password to the rest of the world. An OTP provides a solution to have a unique password that changes every time and at each authentication. Even if the password is captured by some bad guys as it travels across the networks, they will not be able to re-use it for their malicious purposes because the password is valid only one time or in a short period of time.

Browsing at an Internet Café: Not the most secure place for your confidential passwords. (Picture by Flickr user feserc)

So while OTP are an interesting solution for such scenarios, they come literally at a price. A proprietary OTP solution can be quite expensive, especially if we consider that any required security devices for OTP such as  hardware security tokens can cost more than 50,- EUR per person/year. Additionally, hardware tokens and their corresponding infrastructure is often proprietary and require a lot of effort to be setup and maintained.

Hardware OTP tokens (RSA SecureID and Cryptocard)

Can we improve the adoption of this security technology? How we could adapt OTP — the tools, the processes, etc. — to make this approach more accessible? And can we make it cheaper (e.g. using it for emergency access for a large number of users)?

As OTP rely on cryptographic functions to operate, we started our brainstorming by digging into one of the existing open standards describing OTP operation:  “HOTP: An HMAC-Based One-Time Password Algorithm” (RFC 4226) . HOTP describes a counter-based OTP relying on the HMAC-SHA-1 algorithm . In other words, the corresponding token is relying on the evolution of a counter for each authentication combined with the secret embedded in the token (and which is shared with the remote server responsible for verifying the authentication).

The cost (and complexity) of such a solution depends on two major components:

  • The server side including the information about each token
  • The client side being the hardware/software token to compute the required OTP value for each authentication requested by the user

Large OTP vendors rely on the current OTP scheme outlined above to make their business.  Even if the OTP algorithms themselves are standardized, the majority of vendors lock the users into their own proprietary solution so that users cannot choose to buy tokens from other suppliers.

Looking for an alternative to the commercial solutions described above, we asked ourselves: Is a simple, low-cost OTP solution possible? What if we could remove the dependency on an electronic device on the client side, i.e. the hardware token? And how could we come up with an affordable solution on the server side?

We remembered an older blog post by security expert Bruce Schneier about password management for users:

“Simply, people can no longer remember passwords good enough to reliably defend against dictionary attacks, and are much more secure if they choose a password too complicated to remember and then write it down. We’re all good at securing small pieces of paper. I recommend that people write their passwords down on a small piece of paper, and keep it with their other valuable small pieces of paper: in their wallet.” —Bruce Schneier 2005

With this in mind, what if we came up with a security token based on a sheet of plain, old-school paper? As hopeless book aficionados, we thought that this would also be true to the spirit of Johannes Gutenberg .

Johannes Gutenberg: Would he have been happy to see a paper token as a simple, low-cost OTP solution?

We decided to give it a go and have thus  written a Perl script called “Paper Token” which generates a printable page of a pre-calculated tokens for OTP.

You will have to set the initial counter (for a new token, this will usually start at the number zero) and the final counter. The Perl script will generate any possible values from the starting value until the end of the counter. The unique key of the token (in this example, this is the test vector value — so do not use it in a production environment…) needs to be set to the value known by the remote server.

Here is a simple example of running the Paper Token script:

The script generates a PDF document that will be handed to the user in either digital form or directly as printed paper sheet (see the photo below for how the token sheet looks in practice). The user will then just need to begin using the paper token by reading his paper sheet from left to right and strike-through values whenever they have been used for an authentication, i.e. very similar to how TAN work in the context of online banking (beside that the TAN is used in conjunction with your password and where the OTP is replacing the password). The user will keep the paper token in his wallet just like any other valuable cards or papers.

How a paper token looks like.

This experiment shows the feasibility of using paper tokens even without altering the security of the authentication process. Very often, we are giving up some security for the convenience of using a publicly accessible computer or a shared computer. Why are Web services not allowing for an alternative way of user authentication by including OTP? Maybe ease of use and user convenience are the answers to this question. Still, a simple OTP approach such as paper tokens might be feasible in practice without investing too much into existing infrastructures or without adding too much complexity to existing security processes. Hey, we’re brainstorming here after all!

Another potential use of such a technology is the use of OTP as a password/account recovery mechanism. A lot online services are relying on those silly “security questions” like  What is your mother’s maiden name? or What is your favorite color?, and these are often a source of security problems as described in What’s in a Name? Evaluating Statistical Attacks on Personal Knowledge Questions . (Just ask yourself: how many colors are there that users might have picked as their favorite? Not many? Exactly!) Maybe we could replace these easy to guess security questions through a pre-calculated OTP paper sheet?

Of course, we are not claiming to have found a miracle of a solution. Some questions and tasks are still unfinished (we haven’t talked much about the server side, for instance). But we want to initiate a discussion about simple, low-cost OTP solutions, and to not come to this discussion with empty hands but with some working piece of software that could serve as a starting point for further activities. There are plenty of opportunities to improve the security while keeping the cost or the accessible at a reasonable level. It’s often just a matter of creativity…

From quuxlabs:

  • Paper Token – our paper token generator described above for creating paper-based OTP tokens according to RFC 4226
  • The 5 minutes HOWTO install OpenOTP and test it with a token

From other people:

  • OpenOTP – an implementation of the HOTP protocol including server side (database token management)

2 Responses to Paper Token: Gutenberg’s version of One Time Passwords

I don’t *quite* get the point. From a cursory glance, OPIE – S/KEY already supports the concept of having a printed list of pregenerated one-time-use passwords, and people (albeit maybe not enough people) have been using it in this way for years, so what exactly is the new thing in this article? What does your new implementation bring?

Thank you for your comment.

It’s true that S/KEY exists for years and used by a small number of people. The article is more targeting the HOTP[1] devices (e.g. RSA SecurID token) where a lot of services are now relying on token-based hardware to access “secure” services. As the majority of token user (or even administrator) didn’t know that event-based token can be pre-calculated and printed on a sheet of paper, we show this possibility for HOTP. Especially that large corporation use token-based access for emergency case, they usually don’t need the hardware-based token (usually more expensive to acquire and manage) and could simply rely on a paper.

I hope this answers your question.

Tips for Building a RAG Pipeline with NVIDIA AI LangChain AI Endpoints

Decorative image of a RAG pipeline.

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is a technique that combines information retrieval with a set of carefully designed system prompts to provide more accurate, up-to-date, and contextually relevant responses from large language models (LLMs). By incorporating data from various sources such as relational databases, unstructured document repositories, internet data streams, and media news feeds, RAG can significantly improve the value of generative AI systems.

Developers must consider a variety of factors when building a RAG pipeline: from LLM response benchmarking to selecting the right chunk size.

In this post, I demonstrate how to build a RAG pipeline using NVIDIA AI Endpoints for LangChain . First, you create a vector store by downloading web pages and generating their embeddings using the NVIDIA NeMo Retriever embedding microservice and searching for similarity using FAISS . I then showcase two different chat chains for querying the vector store. For this example, I use the NVIDIA Triton Inference Server documentation , though the code can be easily modified to use any other source.

For more information and to follow along, see the Build a RAG chain by generating embeddings for NVIDIA Triton Inference Server documentation notebook.

Tutorial prerequisites

To make the best use of this tutorial, you need basic knowledge of LLM training and inference pipelines along with the following resources:

  • NVIDIA AI Foundation Endpoints
  • A vector store

What is RAG and how does it empower LLMs?

Here’s why it’s important to augment LLMs with a RAG pipeline.

Under the hood, LLMs are neural networks, typically measured by how many parameters they contain. An LLM’s parameters essentially represent the general patterns of how humans use words to form sentences.

That deep understanding, sometimes called parameterized knowledge , makes LLMs useful in responding to general prompts at light speed. However, it does not serve users who want a deeper dive into a current or more specific topic.

RAG fills a gap in how LLMs work (Figure 1). Its purpose is to link generative AI services to external resources, especially ones rich in the latest technical details. The original paper called RAG “a general-purpose fine-tuning recipe” because it can be used by nearly any LLM to connect with practically any external resource.

Diagram shows a typical RAG system architecture using the steps outlined in this post.

Reduce LLM hallucinations and improve model responses

RAG offers numerous benefits in the realm of language model technology, particularly when it comes to empowering LLMs with up-to-date information. By integrating a search function that retrieves relevant data from external sources, RAG ensures that LLMs are equipped with the most current knowledge available, thereby enhancing the accuracy and relevance of their responses (Figure 2).

Diagram showing a base LLM response and a data-augmented LLM response.

RAG also provides a solution to the challenge of data privacy, as it enables LLMs to generate responses without requiring direct access to sensitive data. This is achieved by retrieving only the necessary information from external sources, thereby minimizing the risk of data breaches.

RAG has the potential to mitigate the issue of LLM hallucinations, which refers to the generation of inaccurate or misleading information due to the limitations of the model’s training data. By providing LLMs with real-time access to external sources, RAG can help reduce the likelihood of hallucinations and improve the overall reliability of the model’s responses.

Considerations for RAG implementation

RAG presents some challenges that must be addressed to fully realize its potential. One such challenge is ensuring that the prompt used to retrieve information from external sources is well-crafted and accurately reflects the user’s intent. A poorly constructed prompt may result in irrelevant or incomplete information being retrieved, which can negatively impact the quality of the LLM’s response.

Another challenge is determining how to evaluate the success of RAG in a meaningful and objective manner. Metrics such as response accuracy and relevance are important, but they may not fully capture the nuances of RAG’s impact on LLM performance.

Finally, optimizing RAG to maximize its benefits and minimize its challenges is an ongoing process that requires careful consideration of factors such as search algorithm efficiency, information retrieval relevance, and LLM integration. For more information about other challenges, see the Seven Failure Points When Engineering a Retrieval Augmented Generation System paper and 12 RAG Pain Points and Proposed Solutions article.

By addressing these challenges, RAG has the potential to significantly enhance the capabilities of LLMs and unlock new possibilities for natural language processing applications.

What is LangChain used for?

LangChain is an open-source framework that simplifies the development of applications using LLMs. It provides tools and abstractions to improve the customization, accuracy, and relevancy of LLMs, enabling the creation of various applications like chatbots, question-answering, content generation, and summarizers.

LangChain consists of LangChain Libraries, LangChain Templates, LangServe, and LangSmith, offering interfaces, integrations, reference architectures, and a developer platform for building and deploying LLM-powered applications. The framework includes standard interfaces for Model I/O, Retrieval, and Agents, enabling you to integrate data sources, LLMs, and tools to build complex applications.

LangChain is part of a rich ecosystem of tools, supported by an active community, and simplifies AI development by abstracting the complexity of data source integrations.

Set up

To get started, create a free account with the NVIDIA API catalog and follow these steps:

  • Select any model.
  • Choose Python , Get API Key .
  • Save the generated key as NVIDIA_API_KEY .

From there, you should have access to the endpoints.

The full notebook for this post is available as part of the NVIDIA Generative AI Examples GitHub repo.

First, install LangChain, NVIDIA AI Endpoints, and FAISS.

To establish a baseline for comparison, first evaluate the response using a vanilla LLM:

Now try asking a basic question about NVIDIA Triton Inference Server.

Triton, a product offering from Cohesity, is a data protection and management solution designed to simplify and streamline the backup and recovery of data across various environments. Triton supports several interfaces, including…

The baseline LLM does not recognize Triton Inference Server within the context of the question and responds with incorrect information. Try adding NVIDIA to improve the prompt.

NVIDIA Triton is a platform for AI model inference serving, and it supports several interfaces to provide flexibility and ease of integration with various applications and frameworks.

It now recognizes Triton Inference Server, but doesn’t give much detail.

These interfaces ensure that NVIDIA Triton can be easily integrated into various AI and machine learning projects, providing a scalable and high-performance inference serving solution.

I follow these guidelines to ensure that I provide valuable, safe, and respectful assistance to you. As a helpful, reliable, and trustworthy assistant, I am committed to promoting positive and fair interactions. By avoiding harmful, unethical, prejudiced, or negative content, I aim to create a helpful and secure environment for all users.

Looking at the second sentence, you see that the LLM hallucinates. Now, add external sources of information to the LLM to augment it for your prompts and evaluate whether it improves the accuracy of the responses.

Read HTML and split text

Load a list of web pages containing technical documentation about NVIDIA Triton Inference Server in preparation for the embedding vector store.

Split into chunks

Next, split the documents into separate chunks. Make sure to pay attention to the chunk_size parameter in TextSplitter. Setting the right chunk size is critical for RAG performance, as much of a RAG pipeline’s success is based on the retrieval step finding the right context for generation.

The retrieval step typically examines smaller chunks of the original text rather than all documents. The entire prompt (retrieved chunks plus the user query) must fit within the LLM’s context window. Don’t specify chunk sizes too big and do balance them out with the estimated query size.

For example, while OpenAI LLMs have a context window of 8–32K tokens, Llama2 is limited to 4K tokens. If the chunks are too small, there is a risk that vital information might not be among the top retrieved chunks due to high granularity. On the other hand, if the chunks are too big, they may not fit in the LLM context window, slowing down the system.

To address this, build an ensemble retrieval over different chunk sizes and benchmark the results to find the optimal value. By looping the ensemble on a set of test queries, you can calculate the mean reciprocal rank (MRR) for each chunk size, for a more informed decision on the optimal chunk size for the RAG system.

Experiment with different chunk sizes, but typical values should be 100-600, depending on the LLM.

Generate embeddings

Next, generate embeddings using NVIDIA AI Foundation endpoints and save embeddings to an offline vector store in the /embed directory for future re-use.

For this task, use FAISS , a library for efficient similarity search and clustering of dense vectors. It contains algorithms that search in sets of vectors of any size, up to ones that possibly do not fit in RAM.

Load embeddings from the vector store

Create the embeddings model using the NVIDIA NeMo Retriever text embedding model . This model represents words, phrases, or other entities as vectors of numbers and understands the relation between words and phrases.

First, create a ConversationalRetrievalChain chain using ChatNVIDIA. In this chain, I demonstrate the use of one LLM.

Ask any question about Triton Inference Server

Now try using the same prompts and gauging the difference.

NVIDIA Triton Inference Server supports several interfaces, including HTTP/REST and gRPC inference protocols. These interfaces are based on the community-developed KServe protocol. Additionally, Triton Inference Server provides a C API and Java API, which allows it to link directly into your application for edge and other in-process use cases. It also supports various deep learning and machine learning frameworks, including TensorRT, TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX, OpenVINO, Python, and RAPIDS FIL, among others.

The LLM recognizes Triton Inference Server correctly with a minimal prompt and responds with a technically detailed response.

Triton Inference Server supports various interfaces and frameworks to provide flexibility and ease of use for developers and data scientists. By supporting multiple deep learning and machine learning frameworks such as TensorRT, TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX, OpenVINO, Python, RAPIDS FIL, and more, Triton Inference Server allows users to deploy any AI model that best suits their project requirements. This interoperability helps in streamlining the AI inferencing process across different platforms, including cloud, data center, edge, and embedded devices, and ensures optimized performance for various query types. Furthermore, Triton Inference Server supports HTTP/REST and gRPC inference protocols, which are widely used and recognized in the industry, making it a versatile solution for AI inference serving.

The LLM now no longer hallucinates as it has knowledge of the domain.

A more complex chain

Now create a more complex chain with two LLMs, one for summarization and another for chat. This improves the overall result in more complicated scenarios. Use Llama2 70B for the first LLM and Mixtral for the chat element in the chain. Add question_generator to generate relevant query prompts.

Here’s the next query and response:

The supported interfaces in Triton for inference are:

* HTTP/REST * GRPC  * Binary Tensor Data Extension * Classification Extension * Generate Extension * Logging Extension * Model Configuration Extension  * Model Repository Extension * Schedule Policy Extension  * Sequence Extension * Shared-Memory Extension * Statistics Extension  * Trace Extension

These interfaces allow for a wide range of use cases, including real-time inference, batched inference, ensemble inference, and audio/video streaming. Additionally, Triton provides a Backend API that allows developers to add custom backends and pre/post-processing operations, as well as support for model pipelines using Ensembling or Business Logic Scripting (BLS).

The response is now summarized in bullets:

Triton supports many interfaces to provide flexibility and versatility for its users. By supporting multiple deep learning and machine learning frameworks, Triton allows developers to use their framework of choice, making it easier for them to integrate Triton into their existing workflows. This flexibility enables Triton to be used in a wide range of applications, from real-time inference to batch processing, and from cloud-based services to edge devices.

And the follow-up response is also more concise.

How to evaluate

Choosing the right metric for evaluating results is critical for RAG systems. It is not enough to gauge accuracy alone. Relevancy, an absence of hallucinations, and runtime metrics such as average response time must also be considered.

LangChain includes evaluators for such metrics:

  • Criteria Evaluator checks correctness by assigning a score of 1-5 along with a reasoning for the score. It can also evaluate the relevance of a response considering the context.
  • Embedding Distance Evaluator evaluates the embedding similarity of the response.
  • Exact Match Evaluator compares the response to a reference label.

By using these metrics, you can ensure that your RAG systems are accurate, relevant, and free from hallucinations, while also providing fast and efficient responses.

RAG has emerged as a powerful approach, combining the strengths of LLMs and dense vector representations.  By using dense vector representations, RAG models can scale efficiently, making them well-suited for large-scale enterprise applications.

As LLMs continue to evolve, it is clear that RAG will play an increasingly important role in driving innovation and delivering high-quality, intelligent systems that can understand and generate human-like language.

When building your own RAG pipeline, it’s important to correctly split the vector store documents into chunks by optimizing the chunk size for your specific content and selecting a LLM with suitable context length. For some cases, complex chains of multiple LLMs may be required. To optimize RAG performance and measure success, use a collection of robust evaluators and metrics.

To get started, the full notebook for this post is available as part of the NVIDIA Generative AI Examples repository . For more information about additional models and chains, see NVIDIA AI LangChain endpoints .
